3G iPhone coming June 9th

20 May 2008 16:01 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 18 comments

3G iPhone coming June 9th According to a source very close to Apple and the 3G iPhone launch, the phone will be arriving worldwide on June 9th and that will "no longer be available at a fixed price point", that is at least in a few countries. Of course, the WDC Keynote is on that date and it seems Apple will be wasting no time after the official announcement.

Although the release dates are not yet official the source says the phone will be available in Spain starting June 18th, and in other European nations within a few day radius. European carriers will also have new sales policies, based on their own discretions.

That move makes sense. Over the past 12 months, at least in the United States and the UK, the iPhone has become the cellular device to beat and other European nations only had mediocre sales thanks to high price points and carrier exclusivity bombs.

More information as it becomes available.

Just another trick to get people to re-buy Apple's products. What a scam.

I kind of have to agree. You know they could have put 3G into the phone when it came out last year. It is not like that was new technology as other phones had it long before the iPhone was released. The iPhone is missing one other important feature which is a memory expansion slot for something like SD or MicroSD memory cards. It is the lack of that which will probably make me wait for the HTC Diamond when it is released.

They didn't add 3G to the iPhone originally because of its higher power consumption...

    And this is a shock?

Methinks not. This is how commerce works. Pedal the product by whatever means neccessary.

Well for extra storage for one. Also wouldn't it be nice if you could just take a memory card out of your digital camera and slap it into your iPhone to show the pictures. I have an 8GB iTouch and thought how nice that would be so I can quickly show the pictures without having to sync it with my computer. 16GB is not that much really and SD memory cards are really inexpensive now so if you can expand it to 24GB with an 8GB for $40 - $50 that would be a feature that I would think would appeal to many people.

they will never put a memory expansion slot in. You forget your dealing with Apple and leaving standard things like removable batteries is what they aim for.

to best of my understanding the lack of G3 had more to do with chip size & fitting it into the phone, if you figure 12-18 months ago prolly more like 24+ months ago when they where creating this thing the chips where 2x the size they are now, i am sure that was not the only reason but i get this from a co worker who's in law works for apple & specifically on the iphone! i think the lack of card slot is a downfall but i would not b likely to buy an iphone my centro does 95% of what that iphone does, crashes less & has high speed network! i dunno i mean i dunno if i would be pissed if i got an iphone before it was 3G because you have to expect that, if products didnt better them selves we would be listening to tapes & recording out t.v. shows on vcr's! it is the way technology works 6 months after you buy summin another version is out for cheaper! it has alwayse been liek that!

I can see you point. For one the ability to take the card out of your phone and put it in a printer would be nice. But as for extra storage, I don't know. Every expandable camera or mp3 player I have used can only store on one or the other, and to me having to change between both would drive me crazy. As for showing the pictures do what I do on my 16GB Touch, just show the pictures from the iPod.

I would like to see an iPhone for t mobile that isn't jail broken, and some games would be nice.

You people are so funny. When sony comes out with a new PSP or playstation console you go out and buy it right up and don't complain. When nvidia or amd come out with something new you go out and buy it. Or uh oh a new dvd format!!??? OMFG!!!! I better go buy all of it I can at an exaggerated price. But now that apple is coming along and offering a second generation product you piss and moan. Get over it and don't buy it if you don't want to. It was designed to do some things. It was designed to not do others. If you want the things it doesn't offer go buy something else.

you seem like you don't play well with others. Especially when others discuss things that they would like to see, or think should already be in play.

My problem with apple is that they seem to be more concerned about the appearence of their products over functionality. The iPhone is not a "bad" product but they seem to conveniently leave out features like user replaceable batteries and memory expansion that should and could be part of product from the beginning. To me it is like having a hot high maintenance girlfriend. Pretty on the outside but useless in the long run.

I don't think the 3 g is a reference to the size of storage on the phone.

although replaceable batteries would be nice I still don't think expandable memory is nessary.

I guess to each is own.. I just hate to buy something that is limited and propietary. Only have the money for the 8GB now and then decide you want more you have to buy a whole new device for hundreds of dollars instead of a simple expansion card for $50. If they want to compete more in the PDA arena then memory expansion is almost a necessesity. But then apple doesn't really concern themselves with the business world too much because they care about having a niche product and appealing to the consumers that buy something solely on the fact that it is "cute". Like I said appearance only goes so far. You know that many people are going to scrap their iPhones they bought last year for the new ones and Apple will laugh all the way to the bank.

can't argue with you there. I got my touch because I like to watch movies not cause it was cute. And speaking of cute iPhones I recently saw something about a barney purple iPhone. Was I just seeing things or was that real???
