3G iPhone to have fastest data plan ever on Telstra?

25 May 2008 23:08 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 7 comments

3G iPhone to have fastest data plan ever on Telstra? According to an anonymous official at Telstra, the upcoming 3G iPhone will support a 42-megabit advanced 3G data connection in Australia, making it by far the fastest data connection available for iPhones.

The official added that he has even seen the device in use and says that by the holiday season 2008 the phone will be upgraded "to to the advanced HSPA+ wireless standard on Telstra's 3G network." The carrier hopes the move will drive sales, and he cites that the connection will actually be faster than most fixed-line broadband services.

Other sources have already claimed the Telstra is testing 3G iPhones and that the launch should be "within 2 weeks" of Apple's unveiling of the phone at this year's WWDC.

On the record, Telstra is set to launch a 21Mbps version of HSPA+ later this year, with its speeds doubling by the end of 2009. In the US, AT&T has reported that they will be offering a 20Mbps upgrade in 2009 for American users.

Is this an example of a car that can go 200 mhp (330 kph) but exists in a 60mph (100kph) world because to not enough bandwith ?

To be blunt, I am less interested in the mobile speeds, and more interested in the hints this article holds towards when Australia will FINALLY see the iPhone. The article seems to suggest that 2 weeks after it is announced it will be in Oz. Given that WWDC is in 2 weeks.

Australia may have the iPhone within one month!!!

    Wouldn't it be nice...

which means you get to the end of your monthly data allowance a whole lot quicker, when they will start charging at an (even more) extortionate rate

I think that sums it up nicely.

When you click through these links, the anonymous source becomes "A senior official claims" and then when you click through again its the Telstra CEO mentioning NextG upgrades without ANY mention of the iPhone.

Telstra may have the best speed, but they will charge an insane amount for the data - and your uploads count.

    I'll be on Vodafone thankyouverymuch.

I have to agree, I have never found it possible to get a good deal from telstra.
