Milliamp offers 1 day iPod Touch battery replacement

The iPod Touch is something of a marvel of modern technology. But for all its technical brilliance it has one glaring flaw. Replacing the battery is practically impossible.

While previous iPod models haven't exactly been designed in a way that makes the batteries easy to replace, with a little research and a the right tools it's fairly simple. In the case of the iPod Touch the soldered battery connection increases the difficulty level substantially.

As an alternative to sending your iPod Touch to Apple where it would be replaced with a different unit, causing you to lose any media or software on it, you can send it to a company called Milliamp Ltd instead. Milliamp's technicians will install a replacement battery that they guarantee for 10 years, and now they'll even get it done in a day. The best part is the price, which is about 3/4 what Apple would charge you.

As an option you can simply order the battery to replace it yourself, but Milliamp won't provide any instructions or support so it's not recommended unless you have a lot of confidence that you know what you're doing.

If this company can guarantee the battery for 10 years, then why can't Apple? Also, have never heard of this company, so maybe the guarantee doesn't mean anything if they aren't in business next year. [ + quote]

This service dosent look that new, wonder how long they have been going. My only question is, does it void the warranty or anything? I cant see Apple liking this. They probably love the nice little profit they make on their replacement battery service. [ + quote]

I would definately use this service rather than having Apple take my unit and everything on it. Not to mention the price. Not sure if I'd be prepared to send it across the water to the US though, not that I've anything against Uncle Sam, just that I don't trust Airmail with a rather pricey bit of kit. [ + quote]

I've done business with this company before and I found them to be trustworthy. The ipod battery kit I ordered was great and they were very helpful on the phone with me when I was afraid to do it myself. Turned out to be really easy. Looks like the touch is different though and you have to send it to them to replace, but from my experience I'd say it would be safe with them. I'd rather do that than get a refurbished one back from Apple, who knows what those have been through. [ + quote] This message has been edited since posting. sgriesch, because they want to cheat you. They have reduced the cost of their ipod. They are now putting junk parts into them figuring you will just buy a new one to keep their cash flow going. There are lots of persons out there that have had 3 or more ipods that will not buy another one. The itunes is another joke. Now it deletes music that it suspects did not come from a legal source. That is only one of the nasty tricks it plays on the user. [ + quote]
