'Speed Racer' Blu-ray to include digital copy and videogame

15 July 2008 21:33 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 10 comments

'Speed Racer' Blu-ray to include digital copy and videogame Warner has announced that it will bundle its upcoming September release of Speed Racer on Blu-ray as a special 3-disc set that will include both a standard definition digital copy and an exclusive video game.

Despite its mediocre reviews and horrendous worldwide gross, 'Speed Racer' is expected to see large sales on Blu-ray thanks to its intense CGI and use of a wide palette of colors that should look great in HD.

The BD will be released same day as the standard DVD, on September 16th and will include a 1080p/VC-1 video transfer along with a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround soundtrack

The special features disc of the Deluxe edition will include the fully playable videogame "Speed Racer Crucible Challenge," as well as an SD digital copy of the film that can be played back on all PCs as well as portable media players.

I enjoyed the show...however was turned off by the previews. I'll most likely skip this one all together.

This is a cool idea. Blu-Ray, Standard, and the game. Hopefully it won't be over priced. Too bad it's the Speed Racer film or i would be all over it.

I love Speed racer tis a the perfect example of a well done old show to film, it can either suck being like tis old self or suck harder as something "new".

Kinda wish they would put the PS3 movie on the movie disc, with BR you don't need to have a movie and a game since movie games are offer a limited amount of content, sell it 5-10 more than a BR film and write of loses to popularity and not suckage...like they always do LOL

Boo hiss @ a standard definition digital copy. Your average PC has a screen resolution thats far higher than 720p. Not to mention that if you're buying a Blu-Ray, clearly you care about video quality.

But anyways, this film is horrible. There are no redeeming qualities outside of bright colors. I enjoyed the Fast and the Furious 3so my standards can be insanely low for what passes as entertaining. Speed Racer couldn't even deliver well on the level of giving me cool races and explosions, let alone writing, directing, etc. I don't think this is a film thats worth it even if the transfer is good. Its only worthwhile if you do lsd/acid and all the bright colors will send you on a really good trip.

That issue should be resolved now. :)

My son wants to see it, otherwise i'd probably not mess with it at all. He'll probably like it.

Oh so I was not seeing thing....0-o
looked more like randomness than new post first/top, and I do prefer new post first/top BTW :P

I liked Speed racer even if its kinda like take the awesomeness out of star wars or turn it G theres still something there but its not all that. Main complaints on Speed racer are story pacing, if the story was more detailed and a bit slower it would have been godly.

Since the "digital copy" is intended mainly for use on iPods and lesser(?) portable video devices, HD is overkill.

I wouldn't buy this Piece O' S*** movie in ANY format, though. Utterly horrid!

And somehow I bet your the kind to cream over fancy visuals in ultra realistic settings and over badly made films like DOOM and catwoman.

What would you rather have a R rated movie with tits ultra realistic races based off nascar with a couple gadgets or a film thats based off the fiction with a cartoony theme because its based off a cartoon and directed at kids.

Speed racer is hella better than Miami Vice,Starsky & Hutch,Inspector gadget, ect, ect, ect.

At least understand its the fiction that sucks (more or less) not the godly out of the box better than average style they did it in.

Haven't the viewers of the movie suffered enough already to be subjected to a Speed Racer game too?!

The article is a bit vague about the game so to elaborate on it from what I found elsewhere: It will be an 'interactive game' a la many CDi titles.
