Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 22 Aug 2008 11:46 User comments (6)

New Guide: Installing Ubuntu on your PS3 As promised we have added a new guide on how to install Ubuntu on the Sony PlayStation 3.
The option to install a second OS on the PS3 is very simple when you know what to do and the guide will show you step by step directions from getting the Ubuntu ISO all the way through the installation of the new OS.

The guide naturally follows our recent guide on how to upgrade you PS3 hard drive because the new Ubuntu install requires 10GB.

After installation you will be able to use the PS3 as a computer including using OpenOffice, Firefox and VLC for your media needs.

I tried this, but this version of Ubuntu doesn't have wireless support. It only has wired and dial-up net connectivity.

Guides like this have been floating around the PS3 forums for ages, lol. But it's still good to see an official one. I installed Fedora on my PS3 once, but never really used it.

I keep getting a lock up at 15% install. I have tried several different CD's as well as different versions claiming to fix the 15% install bug. I still cant get a install to my ps3 without it crashing at 15%. Anyone have a answer for me? Thanks

Hi Motomatt, I forunately did not have this problem, but can you please try these troubleshooting steps here: 15 percent crash troubleshooting. If you get it to work please post here or PM me so I can update the guide to include troubleshooting. Thank you.

Damn this reminds me, I made a tutorial for the installation of YDL 6.1 on the PS3 that I have to submit...it's tailored for the use/installation of an all in one emulator but it can be partially used for our guide. Hey DVDBack under what Category did you put this under?
