In yet another example of how successful video games are becoming, the Epic title Gears of War 2 reportedly sold 2.1 million copies in its first day. VG Chartz gained early access to the sales figures of the game, which sold 1.4 million in its first day in the United States alone.
It's November 7th release puts another blockbuster on the shelves alongside the Xbox 360 console for the holiday season. Later this month Microsoft will push out a system update for the Xbox 360 that will completely change the user-interface of the console.
As impressive as the sales may be so far, last year's release of Halo 3 generated 3.8 millions sales in its first day. Providing key content at the right times during the year is vital to the success of Microsoft's console.
This year's game line-up for all three consoles is sure to generate an interesting battle between them again this year.

the one game i actually wouldnt mind buying for the 360. not that i would go and do anything rash like that and buy a 360. o well, i can always talk my roommate into getting it for his. on a side note its 230 and i just finished the campaign for resistance 2. I'de like to play gears and see which is better. R2 is pretty sick though.

After being pirated several weeks before it's release it really shows that piracy is really not an issue for the 360 although easily hackable. I could see it selling 2.1million, I mean every person on my friends list is playin it, good game too, although it has a few annoying bugs.

Question is why call someone a fanboy and what does it really matter if the game is an exclusive? Thats all the more to compare them. I honestly had been wondering the same thing after looking at multiple reviews for both GOW2 and R2. I wanted to swap consoles for a few weeks after i finished beating GOW2 campaign but one of my cousins is in Iraq and the other in Germany. When someone has the luxury of completing both games please post your opinion. Both are top notch games.
GOW2 is a great game. Picked up my copy at midnight at launch night. It is a lot more action packed than the first installment. I wonder how many copies it will sale from the launch through the holiday season and years end.

He complimented the game and you call him a fanboy? That's one word that is sooooo over-used in these threads. Obviously he wants to play it to make a fair comparison. And his comparison to R2 was a "side note." These threads have become a race to see who can throw around the term "fanboy" first.
This is what a typical fanboy comment would be: "GOW2 sux because GOW sux and the 360 fails and the PS3 rulz!"
End of pointless rant.
I don't see how GOW2 would disappoint. GOW1 was/is amazing. The only gripe I had was that I felt it was too short. Hopefully, there is more to enjoy in this release. This game is a console pusher. I wouldn't be surprised to see even higher sales compared to the PS3 this month.

well gears of war 2 may have the earlier date to buy it but i still i wouldnt waste my money on gears of war 2 cause of the live setup, it takes you about 1 hour to find a match, which is kinda boring once you've beaten the game on every difficulty.

Very good point, but I'm looking more towards the total sales for the holiday season on this one. I haven't finished GOW2 yet, but it is definitely a game that keeps 360 even or ahead of the PS3 in competition.
Partially off topic and looking to the future: I'm excited to see what GOW2 (God of War 2), being PS3 exclusive, is able to pull off in sales. I might be purchasing a PS3 specifically for that game.

Just finished this game last night. If you thought GOW 1 was good, this one is so much better in everyway. The only downside I can see is that it leaves a lot of unanswered questions in the game, but I guess they will answer them in GOW 3. On the otherhand, another problem, as with any online games, is playing online, having friendly conversations with others, and then someone starts talking-on and on that you KNOW is not over 17+ just by the sound of their voice. Other than that, excellent game.
