its a big thing to people who actually own a sansa clip. im guessing your not an audiophile or audio enthusiast..

Phew! I almost just bought a 4GB version, but heard "in the wind" there might be an 8GB version. Glad I waited.

This looks like an old pic though. AFAIK, all of the new ones have single-color OLED (not dual-color), and I hope it comes in a cool color other than BLACK!

Yeah, those other brands are cool to look at, but the clip is made to be put away and HEARD. It sounds great. And for the price, you can't go wrong.

Looks like a great buy to me. It will give the nano line a good run for the money. I am happy to see Apple get some serious competition.

Nothing! They are essentially the same, any differences for a 160 BR file is not hearable. The ogg process does nothing that the wma, m4a and all the other Advanced Process (AP) audio process does not do. If you did your homework you would be listening to VBR mp3s. They use the most advanced set of compression techniques and play on any device that plays an mp3.

craftyzan, I did some research on oggvorbis. It does allow for VBR so I was wrong there but is is considered 'young' and not in the same class as the venerable VBR MP3 encodes such as LAME encoder or the faster but not as good Helix encoder. Both are considered the best encoders you can use.

This is not idle chit chat. I do not plan to upgrade to Vista. Unless M$ comes out with a better product I will be forced into linux. You can't play or use mp3s under linux? I realize there are license issues with mp3s. I have never heard of of a ogg player only mp3 players. The linux users I know of use a M$ computer to load their music.
