70 percent of Finnish youth are 'criminal' pirates

16 November 2008 22:51 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 21 comments

70 percent of Finnish youth are 'criminal' pirates A new survey published by the The National Research Institute of Legal Policy shows that about 70 percent of teenage Finns have used or currently use file-sharing applications to download copyrighted material.

Online piracy was far and away the largest form of ‘criminal behavior’ among the Finnish youth. 6 percent smoke marijuana or has, 11 percent have participated in a fight, and 15 percent have stolen something from their school or someone else.

29 percent of those who reported downloading unauthorized content also admitted they download movies or music every single day from file sharing services.

Finnish pro-piracy group Piraattiliitto said, “There is an almost unanimous call from the readers to legalize private filesharing. The overwhelming change in the national opinion from anti-piracy to pro-piracy is somewhat surprising, even for us at Piraattiliitto.”

The Finnish copyright lobby however said the results of the survey were "alarming" and they are looking to pass new laws that will "allow copyright holders to force ISPs to pass their threatening emails to the alleged filesharing customers."

You forgot to add - " and 99.9 % are vodka fuelled chronic alcoholics " and if you need any evidence of that just chat to a Finn who is under 21 years old and online at night and see for yourself .

Who know Finland was such a rogue nation. I'd be surprised if it was not a similar number in the US.

I think we all have made a copy of something from something that wasn't ours and didn't give credit to... so in fairness I think we should change the title to the entire world has been a "pirate" in some form or fashion. And to add, the very people pointing the fingers at "pirates" have copied something themselves and continue to do so, so their sh#t stinks too...

70% Fin youth....100% of American youth.....Provided you own a computer.

Everyone is a criminal to the RIAA...So arrest me because I made a copy of my cassette tape (or CD) because I didn't feel like paying an extra 10.99 to keep one in my house and one in my car.

The RIAA needs to stuff it!

I'm 15,5 years old. I don't drink and i never will even though i could kill my self with booze even right now if i wanted to.

Oh yeah and during the last two months, i downloaded about 2,4 terabytes of copyrighted material including movies, music tracks and games, all of which i shared afterwards. It's nice having 560 Tb of sdd (well partially ssd) memory for all the shit i could ever want =D

an informal poll of every person i ever met leads me to beleive that 100% of the people that actualy have the mental ability to use a computer with an internet connection have downloaded illegaly distributed music with clients like limewire or shareaza.

the time of corporate greed is over. good riddance. hope the door hits your ass on the way out.
