$99 4GB iPhone coming to Wal-Mart?

4 December 2008 14:57 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 17 comments

$99 4GB iPhone coming to Wal-Mart? Although unconfirmed by both Apple and Wal-Mart, BoyGeniusReport is saying that they have received a tip that Apple will make a 4GB model of the popular iPhone 3G available at the giant retailer for only $99 USD with 2-year contract.

Having the phone priced so low would make it readily available to most consumers, especially those that don't care so much about having tons of music or movies on their phone and also want to be able to go out and say "I have an iPhone!"

Apple initially sold a 4GB model of the 1st generation iPhone but dropped it from its lineup when it introduced a 16GB model. The 4GB models' price back then? $399 USD.

Should this prove to be true, Apple has a chance to really move the iPhone into a whole new level of sales.

It's not the initial cost of an iPhone that's stopping me from buying one, but the cost of the monthly plan.

I wish att would decrease their monthly plan to make it reasonable for the consumers. It would make good competition with other cell phone companies because now majority of them have a touch screen phone.

I wish my provider, MetroPCS, carried I phones or just sold SIM cards. For $99 i'd buy an iPhone, but nobody else in Atlanta offers unlimited local/long distance, texts and internet for as low a price as metro does.

If that guy was truly baffled by him saying "fone", i'd argue he's probably ESL.

    big deal, i say.
iphone is the only apple product i don't have a specific hatred for.
the computers don't bother me, but all their stuff is form over function.

their marketing machine's genius is the reason they sell so much.

what they need to do is be the first manufacturer to sell a phone
for an actual, reasonable price Without the rip-off contract.
the contract is extraneous; i can get lots of phones for their contract price
without signing anything or even talking to the phone company.
there are tons on ebay brand new and unlocked for that price or a bit more.
not something with over-inflated demand like the iphone, but others are easy.

How Walmart costumers are going to be able to afford the AT@T plans. If they are shopping at Walmart means that things aren't going too well.

Care to elaborate mister stereotype? What do you mean by "Walmart costumers"? Do you have to have a stamp, or a bar code of some sorts tattooed on your forehead to be able shop at Walmart?
