According to Eldar Murtazin, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a smashing success in Russia, the first country in which it was made available.
Analysts had expected the 5800 to outsell the Apple iPhone but actual sales were way higher than anyone imagined.
From the period of November 26th to December 7th, 58,000 handsets were sold in the region and retail orders for 46,000 more units were taken.
The current Russian price for the handset is €400, much higher than the €279 Nokia originally promised for the country.

Is it me or does this look like a total rip off of a iphone lol..seems like all the phones now are pretty much the same...well if its the same lets hope theres no data plan bullshiet like the iphone cuz i dont see how a extra 30-40$ a month for a data plan is reasonable at all.

Suppoze it might look like a ripoff, until you read the specs. Higher res screen, 16:9, much better camera, with flash and excellent video recording. Removable battery, standard phone jack, year of free music, bluetooth that can actually transfer data. Cut and paste works, and a flash player is included. Removable storage up to 16 gb.
If that's a ripoff, I'll take a ripoff any day of the week.

There's a whole lot more to a phone than just the specs, but they're all at the low end of acceptable when browsing the web. Screen's a little smaller on this one, fits better in the hand, but lots more pixels to make for better browsing. All the touch phones are gonna look similar, that's just how it is.
iPhone's got lots more apps, and has that double pinch thing if that's a big deal. Nokia keeps missing the us market by not supporting the 3G frequencies here. So this thing may never be picked up by a carrier. If I were to buy this (and probably won't), it would be to surf the web on wi-fi, and forget about 3G. N97 just announced has even higher specs, but would be a real expensive toy without 3G.
