Prince Opus iPod to sell for $2,100

16 April 2009 20:25 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 20 comments

Prince Opus iPod to sell for $2,100 The British publishing company Kraken Opus has announced it will be selling 950 special edition purple iPod Touch devices, each preloaded with 40 minutes of Prince's “21 Nights” 2007 tour in London as well as the live soundtrack from his “Indigo Nights” album.

Also coming with the Touch is the “Prince 21 Nights Opus" photography book which chronicles "21 Nights" and includes lyrics and poetry from Prince. The book is 200 pages and weighs an "epic 17 kg.” It is leather bound and has a velvet-covered case. What will this limited edition media player cost you? $2100 USD.

Kraken Opus CEO and founder Karl Fowler says that 300 of the players have already been sold.

“I’m ecstatic about that,”
he said. “Without being overly confident or too arrogant about it, we always knew that we would get to a sellout position within a few months.” He added that the quick sales were surprising however.

Fowler also noted that he believes the price is justified by all the exclusives you receive. “Even in this current climate, there was a thirst, a strong appetite, for people who were willing to part with a premium, because they are getting something that has never been given to them before,” he concluded.

who in there right mind would pay $2,100 for a ipod touch with preloaded music? I seriously doubt they sold 300 of these, Saying they already sold 300 sounds like a marketing line. If they did i know they didn't sell them in America with the current recession.

For $2100 you think they could have done up an unlocked iPhone and not an iPod Touch... That's just stupid.

Plain and simple. Anybody who has or in the future, buys an ipod for this much is an IDIOT!

Not to mention that The Artist Formerly Known as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince" is rubbish.

I don't really know much of him, I saw him perform on SNL a month or so ago though and it wasn't bad... Kinda had that Jimi Hendrix style...

You guys clearly don't understand collectables/limited editions, and how rabid people who are fans for bands like Prince. I can almost guarantee they'll sell them all and there will likely be demand for more. And as for the ammount of people in his fanbase comment, ha you'd be very surprised.

    +1 to that.

There are always people to pay a lot for something that is in limited supply! What appears to be 'over the top' to some, is normal everyday spending to others.

As for the guy stating none would be sold in the US because of the recession, wake up dude! This is a global problem and not exclusive to the United States.

Very few people have influenced the music industry as much as Prince - like him or not, his past and current success is not an accident and should be acknowledged accordingly instead of being 'stumped on'... Of course, just my $0.02!

Reading is fundamental, and a coherent thought, people.

So clearly it's not just a iPod with music.

About 3 years ago someone put up an auction for David Bowie's cigarette butt. They had pictures of him putting out the cig to show it was legit. The auction closed at $160. These iPods will sell out to 950 idiots too.

Wait until the replicas start hitting the net to be sold as the real thing. Then more idiots can throw away their money.

Actually he is NOT a Hendrix Poser but does some kind of Freakish Dance music or Techno Pop crap. He has a following ... Just goes to show how many ignorant sheep there are ...

He wasn't too bad before he went nutty and then he turned himself into a peace symbol. I don't know what you were supposed to call him after that. I reckon Puntz suits him now. I don't get why some artists have to call themselves funny names. Does it make it easier to remember them or something?
