US Customs officials have today cleared TV maker Vizio of any patent infringements it has been accused of and allowed continued sale of the HDTVs in the United States.
Funai had been seeking an injunction on the panels and is expected to appeal the decision. Vizio expects to win again.
Vizio, based in North America, has accused Funai of simply trying to block competition in the crowded LCD HDTV market, and sued its long time rival for "allegedly violating antitrust law as well as patent infringement of its own," says Electronista.
Funai makes TVs under the brand Sylvania.

Score one for a US company for a change. The way things are going in this economy, this is a surprise.

not really a shocker there, its a US based Company. which means its going to have the backing of the US patent office.
its almost like a car manufacture suing another for infringing on the patent of stealing a V8 engine design. Ford could do it and they would win.

Ever buy a Sylvania audio/video product? I have, and can tell you they're garbage. Poor resolution, and even poorer hardware (solonoids, components, etc.)
I also have bought a Vizio plasma for my bedroom. It's a fine product, with a great picture, and good craftsmanship throughout. Not a lot of features, but at least you're getting what you pay for, unlike the low-end garbage that is Sylvania.
@Funai: Don't worry about your competition, you pretty much have the market on sh*t sewed up.

Who really makes Vizio?
It is AmTran Technology of Taiwan.
Vizio LCD screens are made by LG.
Plasma screens are Panasonic seconds, which are most likely older technology and/or Panasonic rejects.
Vizio has absolutely no hand in the manufacturing of Vizio TV’s. Vizio gives the requirements to AmTran and they make them for from whatever parts fit the bill.
Vizio only employees about 100 employees in the states and has no say over the people or talent responsible for the Vizio phenomenon.
Vizio is not a US based Company no matter what they say.

So what you are saying is that for a company to be truly apart of a country it has to preform all business related activities in that country? That is just not true of any big-business in any country, especially in the U.S.

A classic case of offshoring even the contract manufacturing business.
Recently I was in US. Everything I saw, except for perishables, was made in China. I can get the same stuff in my home country for around 8 to 10 % of the quoted price (after currency conversion). Why would I buy it?
BTW I have found a whole lot of electronics goods on a Hong Kong site which sells the same items at (all inclusive)price of less than 25 % of the US importer's price(shipping handling extra) delivered right to your doorstep within a maximum of 10 days.

thats because are leaders are about as smart as a brick(bricks are smarter actually) they dont realize that. American made Goods in America are cheaper (no stupid jacked Chinese Shipping cost) and they will produce more jobs.
but its all about kissing ass in America we forgot how to kick it after WW2. the Chinese think we owe them something if anything they owe us. we saved there sorry ass from the Japanese but to soon do people forget what America has done for them.

Well, I like my Vizio. Every company has the same opportunity to offer consumers a good price that mixes with good quality. I don't care who makes it. Just so happens to NOT be American made products these days.
You can spit what you want about the economy but, I don't see prices coming down on American made products because of it, nor the quality improving. If they did, maybe people would buy more of their product.
I love America as much as the next guy. Im a Soldier. I hang an American flag in my yard. I drive a Ford Mustang. But I have a Samsung and Visio television. Im with jimfitter on this.
