RIAA denies DRM is "dead" quote

Yesterday, TF posted that according to an interview in SCMagazine, RIAA chief spokesperson Jonathan Lamy had declared the death of DRM (digital rights management), putting an end to years of backing from the trade group.

When asked about his thoughts on the rights management scheme, Lamy apparently said: "DRM is dead, isn't it?" Also looking to the future, Lamy said it was "clear" that DRM was not part of the picture.

According to an email sent to BetaNews however, the quote is "blatantly inaccurate." He did add however, that DRM is slowly but surely moving towards death in the music world, but remains important in the TV and movie world.

The RIAA has spent years backing the policy of DRM, despite harsh criticisms against the controversial standard.

it was probably more like "drm is dead, mwahahahaha" with his figures crossed behind his back while sony load another salvo against the paying customer with another covert XCP Rootkit He should rename himself to Dick Dastardly. Yeah, I figured there was something fishy about the quote - it was just too intelligent of a concept to come from someone in the RIAA. [ + quote]

DRM is dead but for the few rich fools who think wasting money on it makes them money. DRM as we know it is dead mainly because it restricts consumers, less consumers means less profit. [ + quote]

Interesting post but far from earth shattering. It is akin to Youtube having something that is copyrighted. Amazon can't do an exhaustve search for every thing they sell. They assume the goods are OK until they hear otherwise. A promt removal after discovery ought to be good enough unless you are "The Bay" then it is off with their heads. [ + quote]

Well I would't have been caught with my pants down. I back up, DRM remove at the get go. No mater how hard or what the cost (probably wuih in reason) I didn't care that it cost me $30 to remove one stinking DRM. I do have my principles! I do not trust "the man" one angstrom. [ + quote]
