Corel releases WinDVD 2010

Corel Corporation announced the availability of WinDVD 2010 last week, the latest version of the world's most widely used DVD playback software. The software improves its Blu-ray and BD-Live features and uses new GPU-based upscaling to convert SD video to HD output. Increased format support lets you watch popular video formats, even direct from your camera or camcorder.

The software is also designed for the latest technologies in Windows 7, giving users hands-on control when used with Windows Touch enabled hardware. "With more than 200 million units sold around the world, WinDVD is widely recognized as the industry's best DVD and Blu-ray playback software and with the latest version we wanted to take our users' experiences with the software even further," said Nick Davies, Senior Vice President of Product Management and Product Marketing at Corel.

"Every enhancement in WinDVD Pro 2010 was designed to provide the best possible PC movie experience. Thanks to the new performance enhancements, actions across the entire application are faster, fine details and special effects are clearer and users can now have full access to interactive content. And it is all delivered through a clean and easy-to-use interface that supports Windows 7 and Windows Touch."

The product also offers battery optimization to prolong the battery life when using WinDVD with Windows Vista or Windows 7. In the US and Canada, the full version of the software, WinDVD Pro 2010 is available at the suggested retail price of $99.99, but for those who don't require support for Blu-ray (but does support AVCHD) there is the standards WinDVD 2010 for $49.99.

Cool, anyone know if it can be used in windows 7 media center to replace th half assed microsoft tv codec ?? I know its possible with the cyberlink and ffdshow codec... but you lose thumbnail generation... would be intrested to see if i could use this an still get thumbnails :) [ + quote]

Can this newer version playback M2TS files from the hard drive. The current version that I have really sucks. It can't playback any kind of high def format from the hard drive and it's a blu-ray version. [ + quote]
