HP starts selling its version of iPod

28 August 2004 13:06 by Petteri "dRD" Pyyny | 19 comments

HP starts selling its version of iPod Confirming the announcement made in January, world's second largest computer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard told today that it will start selling its branded version of Apple's iPod digital audio player in next month.

HP's versions of iPod will include 20GB and 40GB models that will cost exactly the same as Apple's own models do -- in the U.S. that means $299 and $399, respectively. The players will be called "the Apple iPod from HP".

In addition to iPod deal, HP also announced that it will follow the footsteps of Gateway by entering to the consumer electronics market by launching a line of flat-panel TVs, media PCs, digital projectors and stand-alone photo printers.

so if its the same exact product, for the same exact price, whats the point of buying it from hp? why not just buy directly from apple? i mean, hey, i hate macs more than anything, but i'd rather buy an ipod from apple than buy one thats says "the apple ipod from hp" on it...thats just lame.

Maybe people want that extra HP on their iPod... Otherwise, the only reason I can think of is that they can manufacture these products faster.

The Epson C82 is horribly. Can't even change ink without a problem.

I have the Epson Photo 890, and it works brilliantly. Makes incredible full page borderless prints. Don't know about the C82 though...

Everytime you ink change = Printer breaks down.

I wasted $150.00 on Ink for that Printer, and none of the cartidges would work. I also failed 2 projects because of that goddamn Printer. Fortunately, I now have a C84! w00pd00p!

well now that weer on the sub. of printers, i picked up 2 lexmark all in ones at officemax for about 30 dollars each, (actually one was only 20 dollars cuz the clerk screwd up) and ink alone for that printer would cost 60 dollars if you bought it alone

now i use one of those ink refil kits and it works GREAT!!!!!!!!! it will give you some problems sometimes but ive managed to fix every problem it throws at me

If you hate Mac's then you're a dick. Mac's are so much better than PC's for pretty much everything, you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. Ever tried using one for audio or video editing? Most PC's (although they have got better) just can't handle it, WANKER.

You are so incredibly wrong its almost funny. You mac geeks think that because you have your new G5's and your Final Cut Pro, that they're better. About audio...I am studying to be an audio engineer, and I use Pro Tools 6 on my PC at home, which runs just as well on your precious macs, which I have to use at school. And have you ever heard of a little editing program called Avid DV Xpress and Avid Xpress? They blow the roof off your crappy Final Cut Pro.

I have heard of and use AVID Xpress. I have also been using Pro Tools for many years. The thing that you're forgetting is that Final cut pro is a lot cheaper than both of the previous mentioned programs. It really depends on what you are doing, Avid is a bit over the top for editing the type of things that most people do. I do agree that for most editing, being audio or video, PC's are good enough (I have one myself), however I have that found that PC's tend to be more unstable and are far more likely to crash, esoecially when editing video.

Avix Xpress is more exprensive, but Final Cut Pro costs what, $999 or something like that? I think the student version is a little cheaper. But Pro Tools is only $500 with the MBOX, and that comes with PC and MAC software. So at least Pro Tools isn't as bad ad FCP. True, Avid Xpress is more than most people need for editing, but so is FCP! Most consumers that want to edit simple videos and stuff could easily get by with Premiere Pro. I agree that older versions of Windows, like 98 are somewhat unstable (the infamous blue screen of death), but newer versions like the NT based Windows 2000 is by FAR the most stable one out there. I have a server running 2000 pro, and it has not stopped running for 3 1/2 years now...continuously...never crashed once. XP is okay, but much more bloated that 2000. I would still be using 2k today if it weren't for programs like Pro Tools that only run on XP.
