Microsoft working on handheld gaming device

Microsoft Corp. is reportedly working on a portable device capable of playing games, music and movies to challenge two mega-popular gadgets from rivals; Sony Corp.'s PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld console and Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod player. The San Jose Mercury News cited unidentified sources in its report on Monday. According to the newspaper, it is unlikely that this device would be released within a year, if not two years.

Microsoft typically has targeted the gaming market and the mobile market separately. This new project is being headed by vice president J Allard and other members of the team that was responsible for the Xbox console. Microsoft will be up against a lot considering the popularity of the iPod music player and the success, growing reputation and continued evolution of the PSP console.

Microsoft launched its next generation gaming console, the Xbox 360, in the US in November. Its launch is to be followed by Nintendo's Revolution console and Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3). Both won't appear until late in the year, leaving the Xbox 360 the entire summer to just keep growing.

xXBMODSXx, u r not that smart r u? i have black for ps2 and halo and halo 2 are pretty good but u can also get a lot of good games for ps2. all i know the best graphics i have ever seen are for gran turismo 4. i believe that is one of the best games ever. also kingdom hearts one and two are great games. oh yeah i think i seen a funny video of some stupid guys driving their car around and they purposely drop the XBOX360 box with the console inside of it out of the car. i think they really enjoyed playing it ;) [ + quote] This message has been edited since posting. It's purpose is for anyone to offer their opinion on a given topic. Actually, Professor, as you can see from the preceeding quote that you were the one who insisted on chastising another member about a grammatical faux pas so I'll briefly try to explain a few basic concepts of any spoken language. Those buttons on your keyboard with the funny-looking shapes on them are called letters. The idea is to make combinations of letters in a certain organized fashion. This is how we create something called words. Then, when you get that part down, the idea is to arrange these words in such a way as to make some kind of logical statement, but I'm afraid that I may be moving just a little too fast for you. Just try and practice putting the letters together to make words, for now. Hopefully, one day you can progress from that point. Shut up you stupid nut. we all know the ps3 will OWN 360. That's not an opinion, that's a FACT. Just look at the statistics. The 360 is having problems already especially in japan. playstation is already a big hit in the U.S. do you even know how big it is in japan? It doesn't matter what you say, people are gonna buy the ps3 anyways. You wanna know why? because it's playstation regardless of the blueray player but with it's reputation in games, but since it has blueray that's making it even more unstoppable than what it is already. Then you say well the 360 has halo. Wow big woop. Im sorry but halo 3 isn't going to convince me from buying a ps3 it will have to do more then that. Dude sony is expensive as hell and the 360 is going to win this war with innovation and great games (something sony does not have a clue of. FF, KH, GT are pathetic games and their are games similiar to it that are better on other systems. For example Elder Scrolls>KH fable>FF Forza motorsport>GT Halo>killzone Conker>Mario (I know he is not sonys but I still hate him) Really, I am not a fanboy (Xbox and PC just have a larger and better inventory that suits me better)I just don't like sony. Their are other games on other consoles that are better than what sony has and now trying to shove blu ray and 600 dollars down are throats is their biggest mistake they have ever done. The 500 dollar one might work out but it won't have online capabilities with it and it won't hold as much (I am expecting game saving is going to larger then normally meaning you have a large memory to hold). Also Nintendo's wii needs to have more mature games because Mario and metroid prime don't cut it. PC and xbox is better and they will soon be one with cell phones added. AWESOME! [ + quote]
