I agree, who the hell would be stupid enough to buy from them? it really is a waste of time spamming other sites. This guy has been around a while i really reckon there should be another mod for the timezone of the last 10hrs or so.
Format war wont really affect me, im getting a PS3 with BD playback which is a plus but wont be likely to get any BD movies till the price drops to near DVD and i get an HDTV which will be a long time. As i will already have a nextgen player (in PS3) it wouldnt be worth it to get HD-DVD as well, this is probably what Sony is hoping for the PS3 release to do.

Quote: Blu-ray's first dual-layer BD-50 discs have an increased 50GB storage capacity, allowing them to to deliver increased bonus features and interactivity.
Ok, let's be honest.. does anyone really WATCH the bonus features/interactivity or do you just watch the proper film..?

The news item forgot to mention the best use for the increased disc space: higher bitrates for MPEG2 encoded movies resulting in improved picture quality. This was the major complaint against early BD releases and it is thought that BD50 discs would solve this problem.

Click is available at stores for $25, I dont see that as that great a difference compared $20, especially if you have already invested your money in a blu ray player. I think Blu-ray has jumped way ahead as far as availablity of Blu-ray dvds. I say that because I was at my local Fry's and they had the new media dvds on the same shelves...Four Shelves of Blue ray, one of HD. I could not care less about which wins the "Format War", but for all the people here who say "who needs more interactivity and special features" obviously, it's worth the cost if all of these companies who support "Blu-ray and HD-DVD" have invested so much money, there must be a significant amount of demand. Personally, I would have been more than happy to just stick with regular Dvd's. Shoot why didn't they create a triple layer dvd and just do it like that, but oh well...

HAHA!, okay so you have your PS3 @ $500, now to get that sound you have to have a NEW reciver with the right inputs & a NEW TV with the right inputs for it ALL to be in "hi Def" or it will revert to "DVD Quality" settings if just 1 component isnt HDMI Device! Did they tell you that?!
|
| Andrew691 (Senior Member) 8 October 2006 23:54 |

No they didnt tell us that, coz its not true. (unless you can backup that info) IF you dont have an HDTV you cant view much over DVD quality anyway.
You'll be thinking of HDCP which wont be out for until like 2012 and by then everyone would have HDTV.

well:
"Digital rights management
Blu-ray Disc has an experimental digital rights management (DRM) feature called BD+ which allows for dynamically changing keys for the cryptographic protections involved. Should the keys currently in use be "cracked" or leaked, manufacturers can update them and build them into all subsequent discs, preventing a single key discovery from permanently breaking the entire scheme. Blu-ray Disc also mandates a Mandatory Managed Copy system, which allows users to copy content a limited number of times, but requiring registration with the content provider to acquire the keys needed; this feature was originally requested by HP[13] . The lack of a dynamic encryption model is what has made DeCSS a disaster from the industry's perspective: once CSS was cracked, all DVDs from then on were open to unauthorized decryption (commonly known as "ripping"). However this controversial technology, together with Self-Protecting Digital Content (SPDC), can allow players judged "bad" to be effectively disabled.[14] preventing their use by their purchaser or subsequent owners.[15] See Advanced Access Content System (AACS).
The Blu-ray Disc Association also agreed to add a form of digital watermarking technology to the discs. Under the name "ROM-Mark", this technology will be built into all ROM-producing devices, and requires a specially licensed piece of hardware to insert the ROM-mark into the media during replication. All Blu-ray Disc playback devices must check for the mark. Through licensing of the special hardware element, the BDA believes that it can eliminate the possibility of mass producing BD-ROMs without authorization.
In addition, Blu-ray Disc players must follow AACS guidelines pertaining to outputs over non-encrypted interfaces. This is set by a flag called the Image Constraint Token (ICT), which would restrict the output-resolution without HDCP to 960×540. The decision to set the flag to restrict output ("down-convert") is left up to the content provider. According to CED Magazine, Sony/MGM and Disney currently have no plans to down-convert, and Fox is opposed to it as well. Warner Pictures is a proponent of the ICT, and it is expected that Paramount will also implement it.[16] Other studios releasing Blu-ray Disc content have not yet commented on whether or not they will use down-conversion. AACS guidelines require that any title that implements the ICT must clearly state so on the packaging."
take a look!

In the long run the only real thing BR has over HD is a possible 100GB capacity on 1 disc...that alone holds my interest.
Everything else is just corporate magic tricks to distract from you the real issues.

What a stupid thing to say, I often watch the extra's, the film stunts are often eplained in the extra's. Also deleted scenes and alternate endings make interesting viewing.
