Sony sells 600,000 PS3s in Europe Sony has confirmed that over 600,000 PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles have been sold in Europe since the console was launched last week. This means that 60% of the stock shipped to Europe (1,000,000 units estimated) has been sold. The 60GB version of the console (20GB not yet available in PAL territories) sells for €599 on average in Europe (£425 in UK).
Sony had previously sold 165,000 units in the UK in two days, which compares well against 105,000 Nintendo Wii consoles and 70,000 Xbox 360 consoles. Sony achieved the figure by delaying the European launch by four months, giving itself time to manufacture enough units to avoid shortages seen by Nintendo and Microsoft.

"Yes, 600,000 is the figure for Europe," a spokesperson told Eurogamer.

well its fair to say the launch went well. i read somewhere that the ps3 numbers already surpassed what the 360 sold in its first month in europe. i believe the figures for the 360 were around 500k, not to mention the 360 launched during the xmas season. i think the wii sold some 700k units for the month. now all we need is some great games to go along with it.

the 360 and the wii both sold all avalible stocks so a fair comparison cannot be made.

If Microsoft and Nintendo knew they were gonna sellout im sure the would of made more consoles. Sony knew they were going to need a lot so the made a lot. Like hade said its a shame theres not enough good games. Only game I bought was motostorm (got the rest on 360 :)

It says SOLD..If 1 million PS3s were sent to Europe (to the stores) for the launch and 600,000 sold (to people)that leaves ...ahhh...ahhh 200,000 more to sell this weekend

So? you sale off off your factory stock to retailers that they cant push even half of it,this is why I call numbers game :P

MS dose it to and Nin to a much lesser extent.

I agree with Zippy. They say the same thing here in the US. They "sell" them to retailers and then retailers "sell" them. All the companies do this. Look at the differences between nexgenwars.com and vgcharts.com and that will tell you no one really knows the real figures.

neither had as many units readily available from day one launch, and like i said above the ps3 has already nearly surpassed both the wii and 360 sales for their entire launch month.

if you want to be fair then you'd have to account for the number of units available for all three systems at their respected launch. i mean if m$ only launched in europe with say 250k units and sold all 250k, well to level the playing field itd be the same as sony selling 250k which they did twice over. not to mention sales are continuing day to day over there. it was the most successful launch weekend sales figures for any system and as i said before the other two systems were sold during the PRIME XMAS season. i guess what it really shows is had m$/nintendo decided not to do basically a worldwide launch in such a short timeframe, they probably wouldn't have had such a limited amount of stock. sony put out the most units and sold the most for that given time period.

the delay was unfortunate but also beneficial at the same time IMO.

i actually think that sony's goal was to have shipped 6 million by march which i think they have done. shipped means sold to retailers not consumers BTW. i think their sales figures were around the 3 million mark after the euro launch, which they have come pretty close to hitting. sales figures im referring to FINAL CONSUMER purchases here, meaning me and you.
