Sony releases Vaio notebook with Blu ray burner

10 May 2007 12:19 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 6 comments

Sony releases Vaio notebook with Blu ray burner Trying to push the next gen HD format war in their favor, Sony has released a new notebook in their Vaio line, the VGN-FZ180U/B, that features a Blu ray burner at its core.

Although the price tag is still pretty hefty at $2149 USD, the price is much lower than any previous notebooks featuring Blu ray.

The notebook weighs a decently light 5.75 pounds and has a 15.4 inch screen. The laptop features an HDMI-out port to transfer HD video to your TV and has a Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT video card.

The notebook runs on a Core 2 Duo processor and its main attraction is a Blu ray reader and writer that can write at a slow 4x. Battery life is approximately 2 hours on charge.

Pretty expensive, but most of sony products are a little higher price then average anyways, and the quality is usually pretty good. If a Blu-ray burner alone cost $800.00 Canadian(last time I checked), that sounds like a pretty decent deal.

Sounds good. But i wonder what their competitors come out with. I want to see Toshiba's version.

Yea I would like to see some HD laptops becides ones from Sony. Right now the only ones avalible are really high end. I want to see some lower end laptops like this that don't cost near as much. Such as one that had enough to play HD contnet fairly easily but didn't have the highest specs imaginable just becuase it's new and has a Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive in it.

Haha whats funny is with only a 2 hour battery doubt it could get through even one Blu-ray disc without having to be recharged!!

It would have to be kept pugged in soo you can work with it to its full capacity. Hence why a PC would be better so far.

If thats 2 hours battery while at full power then its pretty good, most laptops these days have only 2-3 hour battery's (unless you get a really expensive laptop or specifically ask for a better/extra battery) and thats when they are on lowest possible power consumption mode. Chances are its not though, and the price is a bit steep, but then is there anything that people dont want cheaper(price not quality)?
