Microsoft Corp. has a final patch available to fix an issue with Windows Vista that could leave a user's iPod corrupt and in need of a restore once it is disconnected. The problem was with the "Safely Eject Hardware" (ironic?) feature in Windows Vista. If a user chose the Safely Eject Hardware or the Eject command in Windows Explorer, the iPod device could be corrupted and would need iTunes' restore features.
Several compatibly bugs and issues arose between Apple's iTunes and iPods and the Windows Vista operating system. Apple was unable to fix the iPod bug or several graphics problems with iTunes when the iTunes 7.1 update was released, and so warned its users against using Vista with either.
Get the update here or wait for it to be delivered via Automatic Updates on Tuesday, May 22nd.

Yeah, don't connect your 8Gb iPod Nano 2nd Gen to XP, either, unless you've installed the VERY LATEST iTunes version. Otherwise, you'll have to restore, because your tracks will queue up, but not play. DRM again.

I don't know why people do that thing in the first place if you finished using it just pull it out. It does not cause that much of a problem that i have seen on XP or Vista.

itunes is the worst ipod program...just a hassel, never updated, have an original 10 gig white giant ipod, i use anapod explorer, no problem, just drag and drop files, easier and faster than itunes and it never messes up your files

I killed an old Lexar JumpDrive 128mb doing that, I don't know if they have ever solved the problem but I will always safely remove in Windows and drag the disk to the trash first in Mac. Memory Stick and SD cards, on the other hand get pulled without removing (because it turns off my usb memory reader for some reason and as much as I love reaching behind my computer... and Windows 2000 always gives an error but never a problem yet.

A. I have to agree. Don't ever pull a USB component out without shutting it down first.
B. Songbird is a much better alternative to iTunes IMHO.

I wonder how much of this software / hardware incompatibility is deliberate?
