Nero 7 suite to be certified for AVCHD authoring and playback

18 May 2007 21:44 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 3 comments

Nero 7 suite to be certified for AVCHD authoring and playback Nero has announced that its Nero 7 package is to be the first multimedia suite to be certified for both the Authoring and playback of the Advanced Video Codec High Definition (AVCHD) standard. AVCHD is a new recording format introduced by Sony and Panasonic that uses an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video codec to allow for greater compression efficiency as well as higher quality audio and video capturing.

In gaining this certification, Nero 7 has successfully passed the stringent quality standards and guidelines as outlined by Sony and Panasonic to ensure the best user experience for AVCHD. AVCHD authoring in Nero 7 empowers users to take their own HD content from AVCHD camcorders or other sources, and add menus, create chapters, edit, and encode into AVCHD. Nero 7's certified authoring capability ensures that content can be played on consumer devices such as PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray Disc players.

"We are extremely excited that Nero 7 is the first multimedia suite to be certified for both authoring and playback of AVCHD," said Charly Lippoth, CTO, Nero AG. "This achievement once again confirms Nero's leadership in digital media technology, as well as our commitment to quality and industry standards." An update to an AVCHD certified version will be available with the next online update

Here's hoping it's not as buggy as Nero 7 originally was.

Playback while editing is choppy, watching the files as avchd makes my computer lag and I have OPteron 185 @2.8 with 2 GB Corsair and 7600GT video card.
Only workaround I've found is using vision to convert to HD resolution MPEG. It still looks more clear than regular video but not the same as it should.
