Microsoft announced their strategy for streaming markets

Early this month, Microsoft trotted Bill Gates to San Jose to launch a new initiative in the company's battle to dominate development of software that sends audio and video files over the Internet.
Gates gave the keynote address at Streaming Media West '99, a trade show for the new technology's wide-eyed minions. The world's richest man told a scraggly group of twentysomethings about Microsoft's plans to provide the core infrastructure that would help their companies sell digital music and video over the Internet.
