Prince sends takedown notices to fan sites

Prince sends takedown notices to fan sites The famous pop musician Prince has continued his crusade against online content by sending legal notices to fan sites demanding that "anything linked to the likeness of" of the artist, including music, lyrics and images, be removed immediately.
Three of the affected sites, housequake.com, prince.org, and princefans.com, have formed a union called "Prince Fans United" in an effort to fight back what they call violations of free speech laws.

This latest news follows the events that occured over the summer when the pop star had all content that contained his name removed from YouTube.

Unfortunately for Prince though, his crusade to remove all content from YouTube has landed him in a lawsuit brought forth by the EFF and the uploader of a video that was removed. The video, a 30 second clip of the uploader's baby daughter dancing to Prince's song "Let's Go Crazy" was taken down and the the uploader and EFF believe "the removal infringed upon her fair use and free speech rights."

Should be interesting to see what happens after this latest attempt by Prince to censor the internet.

Whats wrong prince, Not rich enough already?
God these artists (i use the term loosely) make me wanna puke.
He has more than enough money now, why does he care if a few sites use him name and a snipet of one of his not so good songs.
They have more money than god and they still want more.

I guess his yes men changed his mind on how things should be done.....that or he was always a prick.....well...more so than....oh never mind...
LOL

It was better for an idiot like Prince to sit back and let people like me just think that he was a piece of s#!t than to pull a stunt like this and prove to me and the rest of the world that he truly is a piece of s#!t . . .

This jerk just wants to be in the lights and get some free publicity because no one cares about him anymore.

109.11.2007 11:50

What the heck? Does he have a small team of people monitoring the web for images/lyrics/snippets of his songs/or his likeness in general --just so he can throw a little spoiled hissy fit? He's a (former) celebrity...it's gonna happen.

He needs to get over himself.

119.11.2007 13:02

I do not think this is about money for him I really don't. I think its because he is a paranoid freak always has been. Can you take a man for real when he names himself "The artist formally known as Prince" and then that symbol? Answer No. He's rich and nothing to do. But then agian it could be bc of money. Does he have lawyers who workd for the RIAA? BC any good lawyer would see this is all fair use

The answer is YES, a small group in England does this for him.

Zippy, He has always been a little bis#xual pr*ck, I know someone who knows him personally, or did.

Unfortunately too many people still like his crappy music and support the sick b@sturd.

So the artist formerly known as a symbol is crying like a baby again!! Here's an idea: have everyone here mail him some diapers, baby powder, a bib and a pacifier. Since he's acting like a baby lets treat him like one!

So let me get this straight. prince has legitemate fans... ok
they're dedicated enough to make fan sites... ok

he's sending takedown notices to the few people who enjoy his music?
Good ----ing plan.
idiot

I think the fan sites should now be taken down, after all there are three mentioned, so that must be one fan at each site.

im all for fair use and such, and for jailing those people stupid enough to rip-off some one else's work to make money. I think its B.S. that you cant show appreciation for an artist you might happen to enjoy, with out them getting all up in a hissy-fit over using their music to show a happy moment in a baby's life.

AMEN!

Demanding that the fans remove the fan sites is a sure fire way to re kindle the flame of his career. I do not believe that I have ever heard a more brilliant plan to ensure future longevity....

He's an artist???? That's news to me.. I always thought they were on about somebodys dog!!
Looks like all them hard drugs through the 90's saved me from something really serious.. He made something that could be loosely put as "music"??

google {purple rain} colloq:: Porphyria

Although uncommon, porphyria is quite well known because it's thought to have been the cause of the 'madness' of George III. However, this is a distorted picture of a condition that rarely causes extreme illness.
(sometimes turns urine blue/purple hence the slang term)

I think he's just a turd (doesn't he look like Mr Hanky kids?) after all the limelight he can get before his last few sad and lonely remaining fans give up and get lives...

I think we should give him a new name... "The Poison Smurf, the artist formally known as the artist formally known as"

This is getting out of hand. I do feel that fan sites need to be there this way it help the artist grow. Prince is shooting himself in the foot.

2227.6.2008 21:07

ain't he a "work" ??? Our boy from Wayzetta, Min....the whorehouse's prodigy and now he is better than anyone else....you know what I mean Prince? Say hell-o to your former girlfriend from Ga that you kept at your house for a few weeks, 20 years ago till she found out the real Prince....what a joke
