Video Daily: Student sells her spot on iPad 2 line for $900

Amanda Foote, a student at Manhattan Community College spent 41 hours in line at the flagship Apple store on Fifth Avenue in New York City before selling her spot to an app developer for $900.
Foote began waiting on line at 5pm on Wednesday, and was there (through a huge downpour on Thursday) before giving up the spot to Hazem Sayed at 9am on Friday, hours before the 5pm launch.

Sayed said he was willing to pay the large premium for the spot because he wanted to take the tablet on a business trip for which he was leaving on Friday night.

After the sale, Foote says she will probably use the money to see Lady Gaga in concert.

So, people CAN be really as dumb and stupid as they actually look.

This chick just looks like an eccentric, neurotic egghead.

Granted, she was smart for selling the spot (which she probably had no intention of doing until the edited by ddp approached her) but anyone that stands in line for that long for something that will be widely available is simply.........."a few bricks short of a load".

Wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her

$900 for 48 hours is $18.75/ hour which is higher than the starting base pay for an RN where I live.

Wow, she's paying for college and she's going to spend the money on concert tickets?

People are dumb.. It is just a stupid iPad.. Is it worth the $900 + another $500+ for a large screen iPod Touch? People with way too much money and not enough brains.

Anyone that would pay $1400 for an iPad 2 deserves what they will get; I hope the jailbreakers just sit back and let these people suffer under the iron fist of Steve Jobs.

She spent 41 hours in line so that works out to $21.95/hour. That's pretty awesome on her part and extremely stupid on the buyer's part.

According to the news Apple may have sold 500,000 iPad 2 tablets on the weekend. Retail stores ran out of the precious iPad 2. This is a good indication that Apple will sell millions in the coming weeks as the manufacturer prepares to ship them to the stores. Apple fans will come out and buy them no matter what they cost. . But the iPad 2 can also be obtained for free if you follow certain conditions at http://www.digitalundivide.com

you cant sell a spot in a line.serious surprised the people in the line didnt go nuts when the person pushed in.if i was waiting in line for something and someone walked up and pushed in I wouldnt care who they'd paid i'd still demand they go to the back of the line.

$21.95 an hour to sit on your ass and do nothing sounds pretty good.

Why does it matter? If it was me, you could demand and I'd laugh at you and take the spot. It's not like she let someone jump her, causing you to have to wait longer. She gave her spot to someone else and left the line. That's totally fair and has no negative impact on you other than whatever psychological impact you choose to give it.

Are you joking? Have you been living under a rock!? There are people who do nothing but stand in line for other people. They advertise online and then stand in line for concert tickets, game consoles, iPhones, and many other hot items. I have been in lines like that for the Xbox 360, and I could care less what body is standing in front of me - as long as it doesn't affect me. Heck, I would tell the guy "give me $500 and you can have my spot".

You sound like you'd be the trouble-maker, not the person who made a simple (slightly crazy) business transaction.

the point im trying to make is you shouldnt be able to buy a spot in a line.cash shouldnt be able to buy anything you want.if you have to wait, you should have to wait like every other person.

I get where you are coming from, and understand your frustration! Its hard to watch people with money to burn skip through life. I dont have that luxury. However, I guess its not much different when I bought a Wii on eBay for my son. Many people were forced to wait in line, or wait for stores to get them in stock. I tried and failed. Finally I paid a premium price to someone on eBay who had done the hard part and acquired a new Wii.

It seems to me that this limited stock scenario is just a ploy by these companies to drive the hype on their products!

In a fantasy world, all would be fair and money wouldn't matter nor would it buy you things others might have to wait in line for. In reality, money changes everything. In fact, the next time a piece of overpriced Apple crap comes out I just might wait in line for 2 days just to make some money myself if some braindead Apple fanboy wants to pay me for my spot. :)

It is true, money can buy just about anything. They used to say it could not buy love, but I think that might be up for debate these days. For some people, all things Apple are love. For others it may be Microsoft or Sony.

For me it is based on product by product - not the company. I have an iPhone 3GS, a Samsung smartphone, two Xbox 360s, two PS3's, and a Wii. The iPhone 4 was not up to my standards, and Apple did not get my money. If the iPhone 5 is better, I will buy one (but not by standing in line).
