Changes for v24.0.2012.1 - v24.1.2012

  • Delayed Start
  • While not everyone had the same experience some folks reported that Delayed Start was no longer working with WinPatrol 2012
  • This update will resolve this error and give back one of your favorite features.
  • Hidden Files 64 bit
  • This update also helps fix a bug in the display of hidden files on 64 bit versions of Windows. It doesn't affect any other versions and has no impact unless you're using Windows 64 bit version. You'll know you have Windows 64 bit if you notice the you have both a Program Files folder and one called Program Files (x86).

Changes for v20.0.2011.1 - v20.0.2011.2

  • Fixed repeating alert that apears related to Windows 7 SP1 and Autoupdate monitoring

Changes for v19.3.2010.5 - v20.0.2011

  • What's New? The last new version of WinPatrol was release in early November, 2010 just before Scotty’s 11th birthday. This week I’m happy to announce to release the new and improved WinPatrol 2011. Scotty even has a new 2011 look
  • As more computers are sold with the 64 bit version of Window we've worked hard to keep up and make sure Scotty doesn't lag behind the technology. We found some quirks on 64 bit systems but thanks to support from our friends at Microsoft and other security vendors we’ve created version that runs faster than ever on 64 bit systems.
  • Active Task You'll notice more information available on our list of Active Tasks. Sorting on the module ID you’ll be able to see which DLL files are used by running tasks. You'll find two new columns and on newer versions of Windows with additional information. Over the years this has been a popular request and we will continue to add information which is useful to all users. Active Tasks is usually the first place you'll check to remove any unwanted programs from reappearing so the more information the better.
  • ZeroDay Alerts WinPatrol 2011 responds far better to repeating alerts from unknown sources. These infiltrations can happen to anyone just having a vulnerable application on their computer. Files which are repeating alerts are also tracked to provide quicker creation of PLUS Info for new threats.
  • Delayed Start This new feature is proving to be very popular with new users. We fixed a bug on 64 bit systems when moving programs from the Startup Programs list to Delayed Start.
  • Services Display bug fixed when changing startup status. Fixed bug in 64 bit Windows when displaying non-Microsoft Services only.
  • Activation Corrected Internet error message when trying to activate PLUS features. We obviously want to make it as easy as possible to upgrade from the Free Edition to WinPatrol PLUS. We continue to make it a great deal even for folks short on cash and the future of WinPatrol really depends on continued support from our PLUS members.

Changes for v19.3.2010.2 - v19.3.2010.5

Changes for v19.3.2010.1 - v19.3.2010.2

Changes for v19.1.2010.1 - v19.3.2010.0

  • Fixed problems on Windows 64 bits systems. Not all Startup programs were being detected and displayed. Some programs were also missing Date Detected values which will be initialized on install of this version.
  • Default icons are now displayed when no program icon exist.

Changes for v16.0.2009 - v16.0.2009.1

  • Changes only affect Vista and Windows 7 users
  • Improved HOSTs change detection in Vista
  • Fixed Exit dialog (if checked) when switching to UAC mode.
  • Remove redunant switching to UAC mode dialog. All versions
  • AutoUpdate and UAC change detected included in Option with HOST file changes

Changes for v12.2.2007.0 - v14.0.2007.0

  • Enhanced Keylogger Detection The use of keyloggers for illegal purposes has exploded. A Schenectady man was recently jailed for up to three years for felony eavesdropping after putting a keylogger on his wife's computer. I've heard too many stories of abuse made possible due to keyloggers so it's time for it to stop. While WinPatrol PLUS had always detected keyloggers we've enhanced this feature and it's now available to free users so everyone is protected.
  • Interactive PLUS code Activation Unfortunately the number of users depending on illegal PLUS codes has become a problem. While honored by the worldwide popularity of WinPatrol this could slow down access to PLUS information by our paid supporters. Our new version will do more to screen out invalid codes. In a few cases, users may find their valid codes are no longer working correctly. Those affected can write to support @ WinPatrol.com and we'll make sure they receive the correct code.
  • Optimized Detection of New Services As more and more programs move to the Windows Service model it become apparent that this may be a popular avenue of attack in the future. The routine used to monitor and detect new Window Services has been optimized to make this process transparent.
  • Decrease CPU Usage and Conflicts Conflicts with some other registry intense programs may have resulted in abnormally high CPU usage on past versions. WinPatrol 14 includes some intelligent routines to allow complete protection without fighting over resources with other security suites and system level programs.
  • Default -expressboot option WinPatrol now includes a -expressboot option which will be used when machines boot up for the first time. This new feature optimizes boot time and allows other applications to maximize their initialization routines.
  • Regular Registry Cleanup Some registry cleaners have complained that we don't clean up some data stored in the registry quickly enough. This version will remove information that is no longer needed and "First Detected" information on a regular basic when the file no longer exists.
  • Multiple copies of WinPatrol in startup Occasionally, users have written to let us know they have multiple copies of Scotty in the list of Startup programs. This version can correct any errors by checking the "Automatically run WinPatrol" box under the Options tab.
  • Thank you for your support!

Changes for v12.1.2007.5 - v12.2.2007.0

  • Detect changes are made to your Automatic Update settings.
  • The main reason for the feature is still to fight changes by malicious programs but it will also let you know if anyone like Microsoft makes changes without your knowledge.
  • Detect changes to your default browser prefix
  • If you don’t include http:// when you type in an address, Windows automatically adds it. If a malware program includes their address in this location, you'll always go to their site, not matter what you type in.
  • Properly detect registry settings which don't meet Windows guidelines.
  • Online PLUS activation added to support affiliate partnerships

Changes for v12.0.2007 - v12.0.2007.1

Changes for v10.0.2007 - v12.0.2007

  • What's New
  • New Scotty Icon - You'll see a brand new icon in your taskbar. Many users are using the default dark theme in Vista and have suggested a new icon so they can see Scotty and feel more secure.
  • Two New Report Options - Folks have been asking for more information especially for helping their friends and family fix problems. Our new version includes two new output formats designed to help diagnose any problem.
  • HijackPatrol Log - The new HijackPatrol Log button on the options screen will create and display a style of output familiar to many online helpers. HiJackPatrol.logs aren't exact duplicates of the popular HijackThis log or meant to replace them but the format should be familiar. HijackPatrol logs will also contain additional information which is routinely monitored by WinPatrol.
  • SpreadSheet Log - Important details will be output in a CSV(Comma Separated Value) format popular with spreadsheets and many database programs. WinPatrol users will be able to sort all their system data in any format they want.
  • Easy Access to PLUS Info - Program properties and PLUS Info have been combined into a single page of information from our extensive online library. Instead of multiple steps, you can now just double click on any filename to access the new improved PLUS format. Free WinPatrol users will also see improved information to help them decide if a program is worthy.
  • PLUS Requests updated for future expansion - This change also allows us to expand our PLUS Info response and provide more specific and helpful information based on more than just a filename. You'll see some additions immediately when using WinPatrol 2007 version 12.
  • Bugs Fixed Yea, I found one or two
  • Fix size bug in autodetection of Explorer/Run/Policy autostart entry
  • Auto correct screen position errors on multiple monitor systems when registry has been corrupted.
