XviD Codec v1.2.127 Beta (Koepi's 25022006)

XviD is an MPEG-4 compatible codec, which produces very good video quality -- something that really competes with DivX.

If you're interested of trying new, "exciting" codecs, XviD is definately meant for you. Codec is still under heavy development, but quality-wise it is already "there" on par with big names like RV9 and DivX.

This version of the codec is a development build by Koepi. It can be unstable, but it offers the very latest optimizations for speed and quality. You can also download the stable binary from us.

Yes this codec is definitely better than DivX and I prefer it over DivX.

XviD not only competes with DivX, but in almost every test I've seen it's beaten DivX. I've found that I prefer it over DivX and 3ivX when encoding video. (I've been using the newest version (1.0.1) available at www.koepi.org, and not the older version here at afterdawn, but the two are quite comparable) (Users should be aware that not all the beta versions, such as the version available here, are guaranteed to be supported by the final version, but as of yet, I haven't run across anything encoded in older versions of XviD that the new codec won't play.
