Unbelievable. If I had it to do over again, I'd be using Rebuilder v0.98 for all my DVDs - even though it does take 6 hours vs. 1 hour (give or take) for Nero Recode and 2 hours (give or take) for DVD Shrink. I am convinced that the rebuilds, even when shrunk to a DVD-5, are as good as the originals regardless of compression. If I get anything less than 80% compression from Recode or Shrink, I go with Rebuilder. Hey, it's only time--and the computer's doing the work, not me! I would like an option to set the final size, though, since I like to shrink to 4.29 GB just in case I've got bad media near the edges. Rebuilder uses the full DVD-5 size.

After trying at least a dozen other tools i stumbled onto this one and now i use it all the time. Although i know it's not possible, i would swear it improves the quality of movies. I did shell out the extra bucks for the Pro version with CCE - it was worth it.

Why Oh Why did I put off trying this software for so long. Don't be put off by thinking it is difficult to use, it's not. It is extremely easy to use, and the quality of the backups is outstanding. Using pro version. Takes about 90 Minutes to back up a dual layer DVD such as Simpsons series 5 disk 1 from 6.9GB to 4.3 GB, but again results are great. Although I would always recommend Shrink, I will not be going back to it from now on.

Since there's a new version, i'll comment again. I love this tool. DVD Shrink is a great tool, no doubt. But i bet even the guy who made if he spoke candidly would tell you Rebuilder is better. If the lack of "DVD Shrinklike" control is what turns you off about it then use RB Opt.

The King of DVD backup. When you get into higher compression DVD Shrink or any other transcoder just don't compare. Jdobbs is a true DVD backup guru.

I resently discovered CCE, and it is indeed the best Mpeg2 encoder out there IMHO... What I think DVD-rebuilder lacks: 1. Allow for more control over CCE SP settings, including bitrate settings. 2. Allow editing of video aspect with cropping and resizing. At this time,I've tried this by adding: "crop(78,72,-78,-72) LanczosResize(720,576,0,0,576,420)" ..to the filter editor to convert 2.35:1 to 1.66:1... It works, but a previewable solution is disirable. :) What I really like about DVD rebuilder: 1. It's easy. The alternative that provides in almost all of my needs, is a lot more work. (DVD2AVI(dg)>AviSynth>CCE SP>Encore) Concluding: The average rating is because DVD-rebuilder feeds off CCE, not adding as much extra value as it could have, and probably will in the future. I'm looking forward to 1.0!

We got our gifts early last year. Rebuilder was upgraded for multi angle support and we were able to record the Star Wars Trilogy and other great multi angle movies being offered, like those from Disney. The new year brings even better support for CCE and Rebuilder just keeps getting better.

This is really good stuff if you got the time to burn (pun intended). Where as most transcoding software, (XCopy, CloneDVD2, DVDOne) take anywhere from 20 to 45mins to clone a DVD, DVD-Rebuilder will take on average 3 hours. The trade off here is a VAST improvment on video quality. Where video artifacts, such as ghosting and glowing are common when using regular transcoding software, they are virtually eliminated with DVD-ReBuilder. After the initial setup of Rebuilder, you'll find it to be just as easy and convernient as the other one click DVD cloners. The only exception is that Rebuilder requires you to 1) rip the DVD to the drive (which some of you may already to regardless) and 2) it requires roughly twice to three times the space of the DVD, due to it's inefficient method of cloning (in regards to file handling, which does not effect quality). This and it's insanely difficult setup is why I only give it a AVERAGE rating, which I'm sure will go up as the author develops the software even further.

The program just gets better all the time. Glad it finally supports multiple angle movies. Now if the guide could only be upgraded to mirror the minor changes and improvements. Dgdecode now, instead of the Mpegdec plugin, and using the newer version of Avisynth are a couple of those changes. I noticed on my PC that when the new skin is in use, the batch screen and controls are blocked. I had to use the Windows skin to be able to use the batch control. Not a problem, but it is an inconvenience to have to change skins to use the batch processing option.

The best out there for quality backups. On multiple angle backups like Star Wars, I run the disc through DVD SHRINK - Re-author mode - then use DVD-Rebuilder on the output. Looks as good as the original in my opinion. Give this software a try and see what I mean!!

One has to remember this is a beta program. It utilizes CCE and AviSynth to do a superior job of encoding movie files. As of now, the program does not do multi angle movies. If one pays attention, they know that before trying. However, multi angle support is planned. RB with CCE is the best application I've found for encoding movies and I've seen and used quite a few. The quality of the DVD movie backups produced is astounding.

This is not the eaisest or fastest Method of backing up DVD'S, BUT IT IS THE BEST! (EXAMPLE) I backed up the green mile with DVD Shrink And NERO, the quality was fair, 180 min with extras. I backed it up again using DVD-Rebuilder and CCE, There was virtually no difference from the original. This program is EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! IF QUALITY IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, Look No Further.
