DVD Rebuilder is a free tool that allows to shrink a DVD movie into a single DVDR disc, using CCE, CCE Basic, ReJig or QuEnc as an external encoder.
When combined with any version of CCE, the software produces far better video quality than any of the fast one-click tools. However, it is reminded that the software is still in beta phase and can cause problems.

1License and operating system information is based on latest version of the software.
Don't be put off by thinking it is difficult to use, it's not. It is extremely easy to use, and the quality of the backups is outstanding. Using pro version. Takes about 90 Minutes to back up a dual layer DVD such as Simpsons series 5 disk 1 from 6.9GB to 4.3 GB, but again results are great. Although I would always recommend Shrink, I will not be going back to it from now on.
Error '62'? Whatever. Please hurry with 1.0...
What I think DVD-rebuilder lacks:
1. Allow for more control over CCE SP settings, including bitrate settings.
2. Allow editing of video aspect with cropping and resizing. At this time,I've tried this by adding:
"crop(78,72,-78,-72)
LanczosResize(720,576,0,0,576,420)"
..to the filter editor to convert 2.35:1 to 1.66:1...
It works, but a previewable solution is disirable. :)
What I really like about DVD rebuilder:
1. It's easy. The alternative that provides in almost all of my needs, is a lot more work. (DVD2AVI(dg)>AviSynth>CCE SP>Encore)
Concluding: The average rating is because DVD-rebuilder feeds off CCE, not adding as much extra value as it could have, and probably will in the future.
I'm looking forward to 1.0!
The trade off here is a VAST improvment on video quality. Where video artifacts, such as ghosting and glowing are common when using regular transcoding software, they are virtually eliminated with DVD-ReBuilder.
After the initial setup of Rebuilder, you'll find it to be just as easy and convernient as the other one click DVD cloners. The only exception is that Rebuilder requires you to 1) rip the DVD to the drive (which some of you may already to regardless) and 2) it requires roughly twice to three times the space of the DVD, due to it's inefficient method of cloning (in regards to file handling, which does not effect quality). This and it's insanely difficult setup is why I only give it a AVERAGE rating, which I'm sure will go up as the author develops the software even further.
