Bitmessage is an encrypted, P2P-based messaging system that can securely send messages from user to user, or from one user to subscribers.
It is decentralized in nature, meaning the messages don't pass through a central server and you don't have to trust any root certificate authorities. The strength of the encryption prevents the sender from being spoofed.
Passive eavesdroppers may intercept packets as they pass through the network but the encryption also works to protect the identity of the sender.
