Microsoft Corp. has dropped the price of its Zune music player on Wednesday, no doubt aimed at making ripples while Apple is expected to announce updates to its iPod line-up. The price of a Zune has been dropped from $249 to $199. The gadget offers limited Wifi capabilities and features a 30GB HDD, 3" display and an FM tuner. It is available in many different colours including White, Brown, Black, Baby Pink and Watermelon Red.
There has also been releases of two Zunes based on the mega-popular Halo franchise and just 100 pink Zunes that were made available during the initial rollout of the music player. Like many others in the market, Microsoft generally failed to crack the dominance of the iPod. In fact, interest in Zune has been so poor at times that the announcement of a price drop is probably nothing new for many consumers.
Many retailers have been selling the Zune for around $199 for months already and Woot.com was recently selling the white Zune for just $149.

Gotta be honest, I own 3 Creative players and 1 Sansa player, and I've never even stopped to look at the Zune in any store...

I live in Northeastern Ontario and I have never seen a Zune. I have never seen a Zune on somebody OR in a store. I can't look out the window without seeing an iPod, I occasionally see Creatives (like mine), and random stick players are the plauge.
It doesn't matter how much the price drops, if no stores sell it who will know about it?

I bought two of them from WOOT and I really like them. I have owned 5 Ipods and I like them too, I also own one Sony 2G player and 3 Creative mp3 players (use them for notes at work). The thing I like about the Zune is the screen and the fact it isnt so delicate like the Ipod. As far as the size goes it is about the same size as a video Ipod in a case which most people have anyway. The trick is finding the right software to convert movies so that they are not re-encoded during sync. IMToo Zune video converter is great as is their DVD to Zune software.
This is just my humble opinion but I like the Zune, it does work very well.

Damn, makes my Woot purchase seem less slick. The player is nice but the software is not user friendly!
