DirecTV to expand their HD channel lineup

15 October 2007 16:07 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 9 comments

DirecTV to expand their HD channel lineup DirecTV announced on Monday that it would be expanding its channel lineup to include 72 HD channels for those customers that have paid for the premium lineup.

The added channels are part of an effort to offer 100 HD channels by the end of 2007. At 72, DirecTV's lineup of HD channels far exceeds any other provider, cable or satellite.

The company's standard HD package costs an extra $9.99 USD a month and includes all HD channels associated with your particular DirecTV package. For an extra $5 USD however you can get access to all the HD channels as well as all local channels that are available in HD.

I'm new to this HD thing. Do you have to pay a premium to access the HD shows that the networks (NBC, ABC, etc) air or is that only for dedicated HD only channels? Won't things be going to a point where all channels will be in HD? What do they do then, charge everyone an HD premium when the only option is HD?

Yes it costs extra each month to get any HD Programs. Things are going HD in a year and a half. To be able to watch TV on a non-HD set you will have to pay a fee for box that downgrades the signal from HD(Digital) into the current Analog standard.
