The "gap" is narrowing. Instead of selling 500% more consoles, the Wii is "only" selling 100% more console than the PS3 in Japan. What else are they going to buy, an Xbox 360?!

So what, people are buying more consoles, just because there are more consoles being sold in general doesnt make "the headline misleading" in any way. the ratio gap closed from 6:1 to 2:1, it does not matter whether five consoles were sold or 500,000 where sold, the ratio closed in, so there were more wiis sold as well as there were more ps3's sold. arguing for total sales is pointless as well as childish.

The only thing "childish" right now are the personal attacks.

The headline reads "PS3 closing the gap on the Wii in Japan". It does not specify "ratio gap" or "sales trends gap"or "total sales gap". The fact that we're even having this discussion is proof enough that the headline can and will be misinterpreted.

The PS3 will come out better games and the Wii will start to lose it's appeal. It will eventually go from 2:1 to 1:1 to 1:2, etc....May be a couple of years before the Wii bubble bursts though. It's a nice system that will keep people occupied until the PS3 really starts to beat its chest and sound out the war cry.

i am not assuming from the headline these numbers which were used in the article above (in case it wasnt read) show the ratio in plain view, wii is still selling more consoles no S**t, but the point of this thread is that how much more (according to ratio) ps3's are being sold in comparison to Wii's hence from a 6:1 ratio to a 2:1 ratio.

it is simple economics and for someone who is unable to understand the concept, they would be considered ignorant, because they do not know about this particular study.

What matters is, are the games fun to play?
So if PS3 starts doing well, or Wii trounces them soundly for the next year, or a ****ing meteorite strikes China & all gaming consoles are put out of production for 3 weeks. Remember this: the games, no matter what anyone will tell you, are what make the system.

In that regard, if MGS4, DMC4 & FFversusXIII/FFXIII are as awesome as they seem, I will purchase the new Sony system. But if they are not, I am going with the Wii. Because the Wiimote & the games overall seem more fun than what I've experienced on the PS3 or 360. That said, I don't own a 52" HDTV with a $1k stereo system. If I did, i wouldn't be making this post. Because I'd own all 3 systems & not give a darn what they cost. Unfortunately, my rich mum & dad don't buy me everything. I have to work to buy what I want.

Sony has everything to lose, because from what I have played so far shows that the Wii is more fun. iPod ripoff or not, the Wii has something special about it. The underpowered Wii, with a "silly controller" (quoting Kaz Hirai) is more fun than the Blu-Ray whizbang we can make your toast & let you remote control the PS3 from your toilet $500 Cellchip supercomputer 5 billion operations per second all-in-one multimedia system with Linux.

Total sales gap. I.E. the difference between the total hardware units sold for each company, respectively. The rate of that happens to be decreasing (which I also stated), which is the "sales gap ratio" or whatever you would like to call it. Thus validating what I've said and what the article said.

Sales ratio gap is yes. To explain it better, if you were to think of a line as being the function of total hardware units sold with respect to the Wii, the slope would be decreasing (what the article is talking about), but it is still positive and the line is still increasing (which could be misinterpreted by the headline of the article).
