BREIN on verge of shutting down many large torrent trackers

18 November 2007 18:54 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 46 comments

BREIN on verge of shutting down many large torrent trackers The infamous Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN has now gotten the web host LeaseWeb to take down several more torrent trackers, and this time the names are very recognizable.

The ISP has said it is determined to fight BREIN in court but for now they have no other option than to take the sites down when they are ordered to do so.

Working off their successful court case against LeaseWeb in an Amsterdam court where the ISP was forced to shut down everlasting.nu and hand over the owner's personal details, BREIN seems intent on taking down every torrent site hosted by Leaseweb.

In an email written by Leasweb to one of the sites, the host says this, “In a recent case at the Amsterdam District Court, LeaseWeb was ordered to take down such sites. Although LeaseWeb has filed an appeal and will keep fighting for its client’s rights up to the highest court, LeaseWeb regrettably has no choice but to obey the court order and take down sites that list (bittorrent/edonkey) files.”

For those interested in what sites are hosted by LeaseWeb, here is a list, with some very noticeable names. btjunkie.org, seedpeer.com, torrentleech.org, mybittorrent.com, btmon.com, sumotorrent.com, what.CD, waffles.fm, hdbits.org, bitenova.nl, torrentportal.com, monova.org, not to mention dozens more smaller sites.

For now however, not all of these sites have received the shutdown notices from Leaseweb. It seems the BREIN is more intent on taking down sites that run a torrent tracker, in the same way that the recently taken down Demonoid did, first.

The web host had this to say to all those sites whcih hae already recieved an email. “LeaseWeb has filed an appeal and will keep fighting for its client’s privacy and right of freedom of expression up to the highest court.”

Yeah I was pretty sure that Clinton enacted the DMCA....the reason things are the way they are today. Bush has nothing to do with it, time for new material! He is by no means an Einstein and is easily distracted by bubbles and sparling lights, but this is not something he can be blamed for! As long as the media companies are sponsoring out politicians nothing will ever change, regardless the President in office.

There aren't many thing I really hate, but BREIN is most certainly one of them. As somebody who lives in Holland, I appologize for my these bastards from my country. May something terrible happen to them!
They can't be any worse than those RIAA/MPAA entertainment industry mafia bosses in the USA.

You could shut down every p2p and torrent tracker in existence! There are plenty of alternate methods of getting anything you want. Just have 2 be more elite. :)
Pirates have their own private clubs. You have to join them, and provide information (useful for the police) trying to identify the whole gang of thieves after a raid. What kind of fools would get involved with such a trap?

Better watch your big mouth. The secret police are known to arrest radio talk show hosts, for these kind of sick humor jokes. You aren't safe in another country either. The CIA spooks asassinated Salvador Allende and Iran's prime minister Mosadeq. Paid professional killers don't have a hard time hunting down punks who dissed their employers in public...

one thing that has always puzzled me is why are all these sites hosted in like 3 country's when there are like a million others that just tell everybody to get fckd. there must be some lawless country out there that could do this.

nd yea this just sucks. has anything really been achived by the million other sites that have been shut down. its a waste of money even trying cause they will never be able to shut them all down :D

If all of you US citizens want to stop this crap from happening . . you need to STOP voting for Democrats and Republicans. There is very little difference between the two and they are making an effort to block any other party from 'upsetting their apple cart'.

What you need to do is become a member of the Libertarian Party. I have been voting Libertarian since 1976 and slowly we are making inroads towards releasing the stranglehold that the corrupt 'parties in power' have on all of us. For more general information, read the article at Wikipedia at the following link:

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are God-given, non-revocable rights!! Let's keep them that way.

    Sorry Mod,

I'm surprised that even torrentleech is under attack, I guess even the private site are going down.

There are alternatives for people to get their stuff.

It sucks that sites like Demonoid moved to Canada, now Canada is under pressure to enforce more strict laws.

It seems lately that our sweet little t0rrent world's are all coming to an end. The only ones to blame are the large corporations who funnel money to the politicians, then the politicians have to act on it. Oh and it doesn't matter who you vote for, they all work for the same people and the same agendas.

I don't understand what basis the courts are using to force the ISP's here to shut things down and hand over the names and addresses of the website owners. Can anyone explain? Is it some copyright laws or some bullshit like that?

I agree 100%. All government officials are money hungry freaks. They all have one objective and its not the people so we all really can see where your votes have gone. What needs to be done is a collation of people need to get together and form a network outside of our current ISP and Webhosting companies and build a structure that will make them their on entity. So when they attempt to take down these things they cant penetrate that network. If i had the money to kick out i would donate a lot to it. Some kind of counter assault needs to be done to slap this corporations in the head and show them the people own them not the other way around.

The world is (and apparantly always has been) peopled by folks in pursuit of one or both:

    Money
    Pu%#y

My guess is that anyone not willing to fit into this rule will eventually (sooner rather than later) fail and die.

I find this really strange. I have found a whole lot of Rapidshare links to files uploaded by premium account users. These links are more than - 12 months old & still very much valid. The descriptions on the referring url very clearly indicate outright piracy - no backdoor excuse of backups.

Is this German group - BREIN - in any way financially assisted by Rapidshare? It would be really interesting to find out.

And what the hell does this have to do with Bush?? Seems no matter what the topic is he gets brought up. If I remember correctly, wasn't the DMCA created when Clinton was in office???
Sooo by that logic that would mean that if I buy a gun and go shoot and kill someone, the store that sold me said gun or maybe even the manufacturer should be held liable as a "facilitator" of the act because the "gun" COULD or in this case WAS used to do something illeagle? Hell that applies to almost anything ever made... freakin' ridiculous..

    Sontiago,

Thats already happening here in the United States. The gun control nuts have managed to get stupid laws like this enacted. Its all a matter of control. Look at the cities that have the strictest gun control laws have the highest crime rate including murder. It will be the same with everything in your life. The government will use the excuse that it will improve your life and safety but they will exercise more control until there is no more freedom.

    Just my $ .04

Only a matter of time till a new way to download stuff comes first it was Google then after that was Direct Downloads , limewire, Usenet , Then Torrents. I have a letter for MPAA & BREIN we Don't pay for "The Internet" just to be threatened by law inforcement and will proceed to download and create more ways to do it. Anyways isnt Downloading tv shows like Smallville and Digimon to movies like The Shining and Titanic is basicly the same thing as using a VCR to record even if they have DVD in store, if you gonna be worrying about little things like P2P and think your gonna stop it then you better stop dreaming!

I have a Feeling yall will be the ones pushing the way to New P2P next year in 2008

Well its seems they want to bring them down however if all these torrent trackers are listed they may want to take it down and relocate elsewhere.
