OiNK's bail date extended

5 February 2008 4:23 by Matti "Siggy" Vähäkainu | 6 comments

OiNK's bail date extended Still after three months since the police shut down OiNK, Alan Ellis, the admin of OiNK, is in custody. Today, for the second time, the bail date of Alan Ellis was extended, until May 6th. The investigations are still in ongoing and it's unclear what evidence the police are looking for.

OiNK was a private BitTorrent music Tracker, which had 180,000 members, hosted thousands of torrents and tracked over a million peers. It was considered to be one of the most popular private trackers, and even more popular than many public trackers.

After the police shut down the tracker, IFPI and BPI seized the OiNK.cd domain. They tried to scare off the users by claiming that there was an investigation into the users of the site. They also claimed that Alan Ellis made a fortune out of the service. However, the service was entirely free to use.

"If OiNK cost anything, I would certainly have paid, but there isn’t the equivalent of that in the retail space right now," said Nine Inch Nails artist Trent Reznor.

It remains to be seen whether the extended bail date turns into charges, or just another month of useless questioning.

and they need more time to collect evidence because the rhetoric of the IFPI-BPI led the police spokesperson (Dep. Insp Colin Green) to, on public television state that members had to pay for subscriptions and oink was raking in thousands of pounds from these subs, not bad going, after 2 years of spending monies investigating, to not even be able to get the fact about signing up correct, UK police are puppets of corporate price fixing scum!

    psh..poor OiNK.
and that's true..those damn corrupt politicians and police are going to get it. they seem to have taken a liking to accuse sites and people of certain things when in actuality is only an over exaggerated statement, has justifiable reasons, or isn't even true at all. they need to wake up and smell the coffee. people aren't gonna like being bullsh*tted with for rest of their lives. especially when it's over something so stupid as piracy.
go plant evidence on possible terrorists. at least it'd make you lying cheats useful.

I love Nine Inch Nails, and now that I know Trent Reznor supports bittorrents, I love them more.

I think they are simply looking for excuses to keep Alan Ellis in jail since they know the instant he gets out OiNK will re-emerge on the internet as bOiNK or some other playoff.
