Demonoid tracker is finally back

19 February 2008 17:12 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 33 comments

Demonoid tracker is finally back Three months ago the immensely popular torrent tracker Demonoid was taken offline but it seems that many hopeful have something to cheer about as the tracker is responding for the first time since the take down.

Curiously, the the new tracker is hosted in Malaysia while the actual frontend of Demonoid and its subforums are still hosted in the US.

There has been no official word from the Demonoid admin team so for now this could purely be coincedence, but there is the possibility that the site has found a new Malaysian host and is preparing a comeback.

A few months back, Deimos, the lead admin for the site said there was a possibility for return but hope has been fading as the months past. “Money is an issue, but the real problem at the moment is finding a suitable place to host the website. There has been no luck there. And there’s some personal stuff I need to take care of that takes most of my time at the moment, and that does not help," Deimos said at the time.

We will keep you updated.

Exactly. No need to be one of those losers going around asking for an invite, just catch it on an open-registration day. That's how I got in. Then I got into another truly private site but I haven't been able to access it lately, then demonoid went down, and now I have to use CRAPhunt... Too much fakes on that site.

well i just hope that all of our accounts are still there once the site is up and running. i wouldn't be to happy if i had to start from scratch, i had a ratio of around 95. but i guess it wouldn't be to bad to start over, at least i have my site back.

Word has filtered down that the authorities tracked down Deimos when he tried to move the site to Malaysia. A front was allegedly set up in Malaysia and Deimos fell in the trap. Word is the tracker was never up legitimately, only to track IPs for demographic information for analysis of the nature of the BitTorrent problem, and to disseminate IPs to the authorities in those countries interested in prosecution. This info came from a knowledgable source on the official #demonoid channel on irc.p2p-network.net. Stay safe, fellow P2Pers.

the authorities knew who and where they were...why set up such a trap?

Enough of us are members and aware of the goings on to make all this bleating totally redundant. Hi tripp.. you a DD member? hunt me out and pm me

Those of us in the know enough have had invites to the relevant places where we wait patiently for developments. Certainly the one place you won't hear all this shouting about demonoid is on the forums set up to keep the proper members together until normal service is resumed. It may be a much more private community than previously.

I didn't even know they were back! I check their site every few days and I almost fell out of my chair when it pulled their site up!
varnull (Senior Member) 11 April 2008 23:15 Send private message to this user
OK.. and the last thing we need is it shouting from the rooftops with 1000,000,.00000000 google hits overnight bringing the mpaa and riaa down on us again.

I can confirm that the site and tracker are back up and now working.
The site is rather out of sync with the tracker, but should catch up soon.

So please if you want to spread the good news pm your friends, or say thanks be.. but no shouting the site name all over the place bringing the man on top.

I totally agree with last poster. Keep the site on the lowdown and maybe the feds wont ride with the hype. Demon coming back was huge for the torrent community.
