PS3 set to add YouTube functionality

19 May 2008 18:29 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 16 comments

PS3 set to add YouTube functionality Sony has confirmed that it is planning to "integrate YouTube functionality in upcoming or existing PlayStation 3 games" and that developers are currently working on such integration.

The new integration will enable gamers to stream capture and upload footage they have recorded while playing games.

"This YouTube upload functionality can be incorporated not only into new PS3 game titles, but also existing PS3 titles that have the ability to receive network updates,"
explained a YouTube statement.

"Gamers will now be able to upload their in-game video captures to YouTube. We're excited at the opportunity this presents and look forward to more and more games to be enhanced with YouTube,"
the statement added.

I can't see anything good coming from this.. who really wants to see some random noobs unedited gaming footage? Youtube will be flooded with random ass game videos and you can't find anything actually interesting about the games -___-

I kinda like the idea, there has been soo many times in GTA4 already that I’ve wished I could have recorded what just happened!

I can see Youtube beeing floooooooded with tons of videos nobody wants to watch. BUT, I like the idea if it is able to help independant reviewers show the points they are making instead of just talking about them. I would like to see more people reviewing games who do not get a paycheck from anyone gaming-related. It would be nice to see a video or two with these reviews as well.

I remember hearing that HALO 3 was going to be able to do this back in september... I thought it was a cool idea.

I don't think this is anything i'd ever feel neccessary to use.

I'm sure others will use it though.

...as opposed to the abundance of enlightening, informative, and useful videos that are on Youtube now, many of which are noobs that don't edit their videos? Are you kidding me? How is this going to be any different? The videos that will pop up on Youtube as a result of this will be on the same level of the majority of videos available now.

No kidding that this is not a necessary feature for video games. But it's definitely a unique and interesting feature. If I hit a 600 ft. home run in The Show, I'd be very interested in uploading that to preserve that feat.

This sounds great to me. Fun idea. Would I be able to save the video locally on the PS3 HDD? If not, I guess I can upload the vid to youtube and then download it to my PC, where I can use some of my own unique game sequences in an avatar or something. Not totally useless. I still want in-game customizeable music though. Why can't Sony pick up on what MS got right????

This makes perfect sense for sony, they get all kinds of free advertising for PS3 games.

How the things go for PS3 with all that staff, useful to some, useless to others.
I think that Sony must start thinking making some staff optional, out of firmware.
