Yamaha to offer first Blu-ray player

19 August 2008 22:36 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 6 comments

Yamaha to offer first Blu-ray player According to a leaked report, Yamaha will soon unveil its first Blu-ray player after staying out of the previous format war completely. The leak indicates that Yamaha's first step into the Blu-ray market will be its BD-S2900 player. The player is expected to be released at the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) trade show at the beginning of September.

Unconfirmed specifications that leaked for the player indicate that it will support Profile 1.1 titles, allowing users to watch "BonusView" features without having to insert the disc into a PC BD-ROM drive. The players supports output of 24fps (or "True Cinema") video at 1080p via HDMI and is also capable of upscaling standard-definition DVDs to HD.

An SD card slot (with support for SDHC) will allow users to view photos and videos taken with digital cameras and HD camcorders. High quality digital sound is also provided with support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and of course Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio.

Or just buy a PS3 lol, its much cheaper. if the player turns out to be $1200
It makes me laugh when companies come out with uneccessarily expensive stuff like this and try to compete with the much cheaper rival's tech that does exactly the same thing, and then complain about losing and having to bail.

its all part of the plan.. introduce expensive players so you do buy a ps3.. and possibly buy games.. and blu-ray movies.. its such a good deal omg.. =D lol buy the uncrackable blu-ray game station for cheaper than just a blu-ray. sony knows what they are doin.. ever since ps2.. =] my first dvd player was a ps2 and internet was great and free (socom/BF2).. no xbox remote needed for playback.. remember that.. microsoft should have came out with better strategy
