Electronic Arts, seeing the huge popularity of Nintendo's Wii Fit , has announced they will be releasing their own fitness game, EA Sports Active next March for the Wii console.
The game will have tennis, boxing, soccer and other sports which gamers can play using wireless controllers attached to their arms and legs.
The game will retail for $60 USD and will include a book on healthy eating.
Electronista says Sports Active "centers around a pair of leg straps that hold both the Wii remote and nunchuk in place as well as a single resistance band for the upper body. The set lets Nintendo's own controllers properly track exercise across the whole body and also introduce enough physical stress to provide strength-based exercise."

Funny but very true.
I don't criticize those who purchase the Wii for 'health reasons' or just to have fun with the kids.
I do, however, criticize and laugh at those stupid ones that go and spend hundreds on gym memberships only to visit the gym once a month...and in some cases once a year. Now those people are stupid!

Some people are very self conscience, and dont like jogging or going to the gym. Ill admit I think you must look pretty funny doing this or Wii Fit but at least its in the comfort of your own home.

The book that comes with it has more potential to do some good than the game itself. Hopefully the people who are, uninspired to loose weight the proper way actually read the book that comes with it. Though typically those same people are the ones who start on a diet then are back to the same old the next week.
On a side note I hate those exercises with the large rubber band tubes, it always seems like its going to come loose and smack you in the face.

the biggest problem is that if they become anti-social from sitting on their wiis the whole day. but as i said going outside is the best thing you can do.

Well...my wife is one of those who doesn't even want to leave the house because she's overweight (she's about 190). She won't go to a gym where all the physically fit snobs can look snort in disgust when she walks by. There are plenty who are not snobs, but they are nullified by the few who will act this way. Or the assholes who shout insults or snort at her when she walks down the street.
Enough people are fucktards that it makes it miserable for overweight people to actually go exercise.
So...there are reasons people won't mind exercising in their house without subjecting themselves to ridicule and derision.

the thing about wii fit is that it takes about 2 hours to do an hour of actual excercise, with all the results, selecting your next routine, etc. and wii fit doesn't have alot of strength excercises so it looks like EA will take care of that. i admit its fun to track your progress digitally so for the most part i dont mind looking like an ass as long as the blinds are closed.

The wii fit is a good idea and I'm glad they are expanding on it, making exercise fun & entertaining is a good goal.
That said, you don't need to go to a gym or go outside for fitness. I'd suggest overweight people get a bodybugg so they can measure their calorie expenditure, then record their calorie intake. You can jog or walk in place while watching TV if you want. That's scientific weight loss for you, create a calorie deficit and you'll lose weight.

My apologies...this thread is fairly old, but I thought I'd comment about the calorie deficit comment of the last post. It's not as simple as you make it sound...esp once you've slidden down far enough.
When I was doing martial arts twice a week, I was building muscle and losing fat...but not losing any weight. Muscle is more dense than fat...esp if you're working for cardio type lean muscle. An even more popular method of "calorie deficit" than exercising is anorexia and binging/purging. Being overweight and fighting it once you're there is more than a physical issue.
By providing instant feedback, small manageable goals, and taking your mind off the "exercise"...the Wii fitness games have a good chance of success where traditional methods might not.

I wasn't that bothered about the idea of wii fit, but my kids persuaded me to buy it a couple of weeks ago. I love it! I've used it every day for the last two weeks for between 30 mins and a hour and a half, and i feel it definitely has made me feel fitter and more energetic. :)
I would normally prefer to go for a walk, but this time of year the weather is so bad that i wouldn't get out most days, so it's at least half an hour's extra exercise every day that i wouldn't have had.
I haven't lost any weight though! lol! ;)
