25 February 2009 3:30 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 4 comments

Apple launches Safari 4 beta Apple has announced the launch of its updated Safari 4 browser, calling it the "the world's fastest and most innovative web browser."

"Apple created Safari to bring innovation, speed and open standards back into web browsers, and today it takes another big step forward," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Safari 4 is the fastest and most efficient browser for Mac and Windows, with great integration of HTML 5 and CSS 3 web standards that enables the next generation of interactive web applications."

Apple claims the updated browser loads HTML web pages up to three times faster than Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox 3.

The software is available now for both Windows and Mac users and you can view all the updates and new features here: What's new in Safari 4?

I like Safari as I have a Mac but theres no ABP! Firefox + ABP = W

I think I also switched because of some compatibility issues with some sites but whatever, I'd be happy to switch back if it's really that much faster...

I tried it out and it was blazing fast...
But it didn't work with my intranet pages and I can't send them in to apple to troubleshoot so it's not quite ready for prime time for me.
Right off the bat I got a bug. The "paste" option doesn't appear in the right button context menu even when there is something on the clipboard available to paste.

They don't mention whether it's ff in a windows machine or ff in a linux,it would be understandable if they were referring to a windows machine since ff needs IE's (is it the engine or some other stuff) to be able to run which would naturally make it a little slower & also slow IE down, however ff in a linux machine, apple would need to pull a rabbit out to even come close, sounds like a load of the usual blow their own horn nonsense
