PS3 Slim ready to ship in July?

2 July 2009 2:59 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 19 comments

PS3 Slim ready to ship in July? According to the Taiwanese website UDN, and translated originally by Engadget, it appears the upcoming rumored PS3 Slim will be ready to ship by the end of July.

The report says the companies Foxconn and Pegatron are already working on the new model and will have the system built and ready to ship by the end of the month.

Last week, Arstechnica revealed they had information on an upcoming PS3 price cut set for August which would come alongside the launch of the PS3 Slim.

The PS3 Slim, if true, would only be marginally different than the current PS3, however sporting a much thinner body.

I would consider it but what would be the advantages of purchasing the slim over the regular PS3?

Price, less power consumption, quieter running, smaller size & different aesthetics is what I could come up with off the top of my head to name a few.

Eh, it's a matter of time... We all saw slimmer PS2s and PSPs, so a slim PS3 is not a surprise, just a matter of time. However, unlike the PS2 and PSP, the PS3 has PSN games associated with it. So, for people who already have a PS3 and want to "upgrade" to a slimmer PS3, backing up the old PS3's content and restore it on the new slim PS3 will not work :( (which means you have re-download everything, worse of all, some game saves can't be copied). Upgrading the hdd works since you're dealing with the same PS3 console, except copy protected game saves (you'll still need to go to the PSN account and reactive the account though).

PlayStation Cloud should fix that from what I have read.

Why people love to speculate?

The price is a speculation I'll give you that but the PS3 is nearly 2 years without a price drop. It's just about the time to do so. Less power consumption would be due to the 45nm's coming real soon

Quote:
It was rumored that the Cell processors in the third-generation PS3s (40 GB) would move from a 90 nm process to the newer 65 nm process,[61] which SCEI CEO Kaz Hirai later confirmed,[62] and later to 45 nm. This change lowers the power consumption of the console and makes it less expensive to produce.
As far as the smaller size "speculation" we are talking about the PS3 Slim aren't we?...Or am I mistaken and posting in the wrong thread or something?...and the aesthetics goes with the redesign...does it not of said PS3 Slim?

So really, purchasing the PS3 slim wouldn't help me out if I'm content with the current PS3 model.

Correct. Just like how the PS2 Slim was the same console but in a different package that cost less to the consumer as well as Sony on the manufacturing end.

SCEI CEO Kaz Hirai has announce and it has been rumored a trillion of things for the PS2, PS3, PSP and only for what it has come out has been a disappointing of useless technologies. What's the point for the PS3 "SLIM", so it's going to be "portable" or what?, another waste.

The PS3s (40 GB) was a big mistake, the Playstation technology itself has not changed for the better; "SONY Entertainment" thinks that taken features away from the console is going to sell better, making it more available for the less unfortunates. WRONG!, Whoever can barely buy the console, how in hell can buy the games for it?, No wonder there's so much piracy, hackers, homebrews ... etc, etc..., in counterpart SONY released an anti-copy, anti-this, anti-that !, by the time after you spend $400, $600. the super console is a piece of waste because is only good for nothing.

After the original released on DEC 2006, the PS3 still suffers many issues, like out of memory, freezing, Web browser sucks!, just for mentioning few, and recently stops to stream media from PC Windows Media (Media Server error DLNA Protocol (2006)).

Mr. Kaz Hirai, SONY SCEI CEO !, instead of wasting time and money trying to re-invent the consoles, you should invest the time and few dollars into giving a proper service to the consumer.

This just must be your problem because I have absolutely no problems online, media streaming works fine, etc. I have absolutely no problems at all.

So you highlight the word rumored but not the comment of him CONFIRMING it later in the sentence huh? Reading comprehension FTL. I really don't have to say anything more than that...

Of course it is nothing to say, because "SONY" has put in the market a spectacular product that they can't provide a 100% support (like all their products, no wonder here).

Whatever I have highlighted or not, not point to discuss!, the point is that SCEI CEO Kaz Hirai, CONFIRMED, only crap to their customers. Got to be some wrong, cause all the rest of consoles in the market has out sold the PS3, including the PS2.

Like I said, there is nothing else to say specifically about the subject. You claimed speculation and my point was very well made in reply. It's absolutely crystal clear in black & white right here. There is no need for me to explain anything else because I gave you the answer but you just refuse to comprehend it, only to then go off on some borderline incoherency afterward. Done.

Nothing, Really. Unless you have a ridiculously small house and really need to save space urgently.

Sadly, this is also true. If only SONY could bring back that all important backwards compatibility component, they'd raise their sales so much. The thing I can't ever understand is why they stopped production of the 60 GB immediately after dealing with profit problems.

I would have thought that in the slim model, they would have re-introduced the PS2 compatibility, to really perfect the inner and outer potential this console is capable of. As previous posts made in this forum suggest, SONY fans/consumers have had enough with SONY's pretentious attempt as continuously upgrading their consoles' aesthetics, and not dealing with important internal components that could boost their sales and fan base.

I believe the release of this Slim PS3 will only affect those who do not have a PS3 previously, displaying SONY's desperate attempt to boost their sales and market. It will succeed, I personally feel it's a lazy and pretentious thing to do as SONY have hit their pinnacle with the PS2, now they're just being complacent.

price would actually be higher, so i hope you do not think that the price would be cheaper. I just assumed you think price will be lower because you said a lot of possative things after the price, like power consumption, smaller size and such.

So we're almost at the end of July, where's the slim? The latest rumor I heard that it's going to be a bundle? A slim PS3 with some American football game?

Honestly, anything is possible but I cannot see how the price would be more when manufacturing technology i.e. 45nm actually makes it less expensive to produce.
