Psystar will support OS X Snow Leopard on its machines Psystar, the infamous Apple clone maker and public enemy number one for Apple at this time, has revealed in a blog post that it is working on ensuring the recently released OS X Snow Leopard operating system will run on its products. However, it has urged users not to attempt to upgrade to the new operating system yet until Psystar can confirm a safe way to install the new operating system.
"Our development team had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the official release the next iteration of OS X," the blog post reads. "We have developed new virtualization technologies to allow our Open Computers to interface with the all new Mac OS X like never before, ensuring a seamless computing experience. We support Snow Leopard on all new Psystar machines and we're already taking orders for computers with the latest OS from Apple which will begin to ship next week.

"We ask you not attempt to install the new OS X as it may cause harm to your computer, resulting in a possible re-installation of Leopard OS 10.5 and a loss of data. As with all previous software updates to the OS, Psystar meticulously tests and retests all software updates to confirm their compatibility with older Psystar machines."

Apple has requested that a California judge order a 30 day re-opening of discovery in the case between both companies, so that it can obtain Psystar's Snow Leopard-related source code.

People need choice. If companies are making Mac clones just to run Snow Leopard it means Apple is not answering a need. Am I right? If someone wanted a light weight netbook but they wanted OS X they have NO options! The only thing remotely close to that is the Macbook AIR and that doesn't have firewire and is still much larger than all netbooks out there! People don't want virus' (hence stay away from Windows) and people want easy to use and their software to run on it (hence stay away from Linux - no adobe products). Mac's also do not have a multitouch or drawing tablet computer.

BTW If Linux wants to succeed it needs Adobe products and possibly Office. It's strategy should be to do whatever it can to get Adobe products on it. ALL of them.

A friend mentioned recently that more people are running Hackintosh than all Linux users combined. If that's true which I doubt then I respond, they wouldn't be if Linux ran Adobe products. 100's of millions of people would switch.

Also, if Psystar is as passionate about running OS X as much as they seem to be they should get Apple's blessing however hard that may seem. They may have to pay for OSX license to be preinstalled? Or they could ship a copy of Mac OS X with their computers that the user would then have to install themselves. But it's not preinstalled! So what. Instruct the user to put the disk in and an hour later they OS X on it.
