FireWire(synonyms: IEEE.1394)Full description not available yet.
FireWire is a friendlier, "marketing" name for technology known as IEEE.1394. FireWire is basically a competitor to USB technology, beating the original USB1.x hands down in transfer speeds, etc.
FireWire is widely used in Apple computers and also virtually all of the digital camcorders are equipped with FireWire ports. The technology is currently (03/2003) getting more and more popular in Intel-based PCs as well.

Have the standards for "firewire" IEEE cables and ports changed. I have a IEEE cable where both ends look/are the same size. REcently I noted "new" firewire cables are different one end to the other. Any explanations?
