SOCAN

The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) is a Canadian copyright collective formed in 1990 as the result of the merging of two former Canadian performing rights organizations: The Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada (CAPAC) and the Performing Rights Organization of Canada (PROCAN).

SOCAN collect licence fees which are set by the Copyright Board Of Canada from public users of the copyrighted music and distribute these royalties to the songwriters, composers and music publishers that they represent.

They also pay royalties to PROs for copyright protected music of their international counterparts played in Canada.
