PSgroove is an "Open Source PS Jailbreak" released not long after the original PS Jailbreak console for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console. PSgroove is a software solution designed to be ported to other devices. It also aimed to provide a low cost option for system modification when compared to the PS Jailbreak, which was selling for $170.
The PSgroove code has been ported to many different devices that can be connected to a PS3 via a USB port just like the PS Jailbreak. Initially, PSgroove software did not include the ability to run game backups, but this was added in a later build which gave PSgroove all the features of the expensive PS Jailbreak USB dongle.
PSgroove can be easily programmed to a low-cost USB development board that can be purchased on the Internet. While PS Jailbreak is an illegal product at least in Australia, and the subject of litigation in other countries, PSgroove is a downloadable piece of software and the sale of a USB development board is not illegal.
It has also been ported to devices such as Texas Instruments calculators and other developments were promised at some point in the future, such as a port to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld console.
