Vivid Entertainment wants to distribute porn on PSN

12 September 2009 21:27 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 18 comments

Vivid Entertainment wants to distribute porn on PSN Vivid Entertainment, the largest adult entertainment video production company in the world, is interested in distributing pornographic content through the PlayStation Network (PSN), and then possibly with Xbox Live or on the Wii console. Vivid owner, Steve Hirsch, hopes to convince Sony first, having had trouble initially offering Vivid titles on the Blu-ray Disc format.

"Our point is pretty simple," Hirsch told Kotaku. "As long as age verification is in place that (Sony) feels comfortable with we see no reason why adults shouldn't be allowed to access adult movies on the Playstation 3." The company is drafting a formal request that will be sent to Sony Computer Entertainment, but has not yet discussed the prospect with the console maker.

The decision to approach Sony about PSN porn comes after some pornographic content has become available from Japan's DDM.TV on the PS3 console. "They had made it clear in the past they were not interested," Hirsch said. "Now that they have agreed to in some way allow adult films on the Japanese platform we are going to move forward and make a formal request."

He understands that it is an uphill battle, but doesn't see a problem with an Adults Only section on the PS3's online network, especially when there are any number of ways of verifying a user's age. "It is certainly something that creates a lot of attention, when you talk about adult content being put on any new platform," he said. "It isn't that dissimilar to getting it on cell phones.

"Certainly we understand there is going to be some resistance on Sony's part when it comes to adult content on their console. We all understand there are kids who use the Playstation every day and we want to keep content away from them, but there are also adults who use it."

Vivid can try if they want. I'm fairly certain Sony will say no. They don't want to have to deal with the headache that would inevitably come from allowing it and I don't blame them. Ager verificatino is a joke. If people want and need to watch porn that badly, they can do so by some other means.

They should hit up MS first....

But seriously why not? but up 2 or 3 levels of safe guards a Drivers license number a CCard and a 20$ registration fee with lengthy TOS to allow the PSN/Live account to take adult content.

That would be a nice feature though. I wouldn't mind having it but I don't see how kids would have access to it unless they are teens or get on a parents account. If teens really want to view this material they can just as easily go on Google.

Sony just turned down JAV groups when they were one of the handful of production plates doing BR back when HVDVD was still around.

At least thats what I heard not heard much about it but have seen BR porn films so I am making an ass of myself assuming :P

You really should check your facts before you talk rubbish so confidently - there is a massive amount of porn both straight and gay on blu-ray.
just go to tlavideo or movietyme or any number of online sites and check it out
