Xbox 360 10 million sold? IPTV support?

At a keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Microsoft's Bill Gates and Robbie Bach are expected to confirm that the console has reached over 10 million units sold and speak about IPTV functionality. The Xbox 360 being able to serve as a set-top box for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) would be neat. Microsoft's own video download store has gotten praise for its performance so far, especially with HD content.

Not many details are available about the announcement just yet but the functionality is set to appear sometime later this year. Also, apparently no customers would be "left behind", meaning all Xbox 360 consoles out will be able to participate in the service at some level.

until they release the hd dvd update later this year microsofts plans include realeasing a hd dvd update to all of there xbox 360 games requiring gamers to purchase the 200.00 hd dvd drive ff 11 online has already received this update and using the hd dvd decoder to decode ff 11 into hd dvd neat huh [ + quote]

Hddvd decoder decodes ff11 to hddvd? Seriously, wtf? And commenting the original news: I really don't care. That video rental thing on marketplace and iptv sounds interesting, but they will never reach Finland. [ + quote]

yep i had to purchase the hd dvd drive just to log into my ff 11 account everytime i tried to log in it kept bringing up a error code 766856 cannot find HD-DVD output device purchased my hd dvd drive and my console works im just hoping that this only affects ff 11 and not gears of war and other games or people are going to be p#%$#% off [ + quote]

@tabletpc You cant be serious, that has to be a bug, MS have been adamant that the HD-DVD drive will not be needed for gaming. And anyway all of the HD-DVD processing/decoding is done by the actual 360 not by the addon, I see no reason for it to be needed unless its a bug. [ + quote]

Good thing i've waited to get the 360 and also the ps3. So much for people saying the ps3 is overpriced when the 360 is 600$ with hddvd add on also hahahaha. Good money making scheme microsoft they're almost as good as sony at stealing money from customers. But hey we all now we we all eventually get all 3 freaking systems. [ + quote]

I still dont believe that it was on purpose,(and this coming from a long time MS hater) it must just either be an isolated setup issue or a bug in the game that should be patched soon. I just dont think MS is that low, to force people to buy it for games to work even if it doesnt help in any way. Might ned to check a few xbox forums and see if other people are having this issue. the iptv wont do much. so many people already get a good price on cable from having cable internet, and a goo price on the internet from having cable. they wont care so much, and it will only waist bandwidth lke non other. iptv and webcam streams need to wait ntill 10mbs is the common nternet speed because the qulity in cmparison is crap. 10 million units are not bad. But after seeing the wii and the interaction that has for the user and the price it goes for i may sway that way. All though going back i am a sega man. :) Crossing over :P [ + quote]
