Sony to use Immersion technology

4 March 2007 16:47 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 19 comments

Sony to use Immersion technology Sony Corp. and Immersion Corporation have entered into a new agreement that will bring rumble technology back to Sony hardware. Sony had left vibration features from the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis controller due to ongoing litigation with Immersion. Recently, both companies settled the dispute and it was expected that an agreement to use Immersion technology in future Sony products would be reached.

"Our new business agreement with Sony is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation community." CEO of Immersion, Victor Viegas said. "We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."

Kaz Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment said: "We look forward to exploring with Immersion exciting new ways to bring the largest and best range of gameplay experiences to our customers. We are very excited about our new partnership with Immersion and the potential for new and innovative products incorporating their technologies."

awesome!! so anyone else thinking that we'll having a choice to buy Sixaxis or Dualshock 3? I wonder how they'll do it. Or just make a new controller with both technologies in it? that would be cool.

It'd be kind of interesting seeing both technologies in the same controller. Imagine smashing your ship into something, thus causing a vibration feedback. The feedback thus causes your ship on screen to start vibrating. lol.

well after reading some of your posts i'd be pretty surprised if you actually owned a ps3. like so many of fanboys say, "the 360 gives you a choice," well sony just did too. if this comes to life, you don't HAVE to buy a new controller with rumble.

simple, those who really want rumble back im sure will be more than willing to buy a controller. otherwise why would so many make a big stink? now what is their to cry about?

whether you like, love or hate sony or the ps3, i do think people need to atleast realize that when the general public speaks loud enough sony is apparantly listening. there was mostly a negative reponse to sony's Boomerang controller and what happend? the only real key left for sony is finding ways to lower the price. give it some time

    ok lets see here...

you said this "so now i guess on top of 600.00 that you paid for the system and that shitty controller."

you wouldn't use the word "you" if you wanted to include yourself in that equation.

but naturally you then go on to say...
"now we must go buy new controllers.yes that makes sense."

so now you say "we" meaning your included in having to upgrade. so basically after reading your other posts, i pretty much came to a consclussion that i really doubt you own a ps3 with such negative feelings toward sony/ps3. here is a collection of some of your other posts...

come on sony you wont admitt that the 360 is better than you system but you are trying to make your system just like theirs.whats wrong sony out of fresh ideas

you can find that here: PS3 firmware update to add avatars, achievements?

for 600.00 bucks you would think you would get a good oline service like xbox live.even if you hade to pay 50.00 bucks a year for it online gameplay just adds value to these 60.00 games we buy.because for the most part you breez thru most games in a few hour or days.so when you beat the campaing there is oline multiplayer.that can give you more enjoyment from your 60.00 investment.........i agree fully with you on that sony left out some pretty basic stuff in favor of high end bull that many gamers dont want or cant afford.sony and nintendo fanboys may not want to admitt it but the 360 is the best bang for the buck if you dont want blueray

that one came from here: Harrison backs Blu-ray inclusion in PS3

and then your best post of all located right here...

i don't think i really stepped over the line or insulted you so im not sure why you got soooo upset, but you should be a little more careful with what you say. i never did say you didn't own a ps3, i said i'd be SURPRISED if you did...just because people don't post in all the threads/forums doens't mean we don't read them. try not to be so testy next time.

I have played ps3 and anyone saying that the ps3 rocks is an idiot, you must not own a 360. Im sick of sony. I'd own a ps3 if there wasnt any blur ay in it. It sucks, with taxes and a game your looking at well over $700.00, for a game, for a game. DRM must be this gen too.

I don't see the reason for you people to get upset about the rumble pack coming back. All i can see is that it is a + for the consumers giving us more choices, so dont bag on this wonderful news.

this is why I think they should go with a WII design mius the "mote" part image having 2 4-6 button numb chucks with a left/right switch now add rumble screwing with your physical motion aiming ...it makes me wet thinking about it 0-o.
