Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) head of corporate communications, Nick Sharples, said that the company is still on track to reach its target of 6 million PS3 units shipped by the end of March. He re-confirmed Sony's target in an interview with Bloomberg at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. He also said that Sony will reveal shipment estimates for financial year ending March 2008 on May 13th.
Some have cast doubt on Sony's target, which was initially set about a year ago when the PS3 was still on target for a global launch in November. However, some Blu-ray component production problems and other issues, saw the console being delayed in PAL territories. The European launch of the PS3 is on March 23rd.
To make up for the delay in Europe, Sony has promised that one million units will be available on launch date, more than the number of Xbox 360's and Wii's available on day one, put together. Sharples also revealed that a beta test of the PlayStation Home feature will begin next month.

They can ship all they want, they are still not selling. Only 1.6 Million consoles sold in 4 months that leaves about 4.4 million consoles unsold.

That number is not official yet.We will see May 13 but i can tell you now its not 1.6 million sold that number from Nexgen wars is behind on Wii & PS3 i work @ Bestbuy i can tell you that PS3 here at BB & other stores has been good. Not massive but a really good flow & also to count that there are alot of games for PS3 coming out as of now will only help that number.I'm calling it right now when Sony release there numbers in may some people going to be shocked at how many sold and going to say it was inflated. There are not build up like people claim Sony is doing a very good job of producing consoles quick.

Sony might catch up eventually, but reckon by then Xbox 720 & Wii 2 will be released, technology is improving too quick now a days, you could not have a console that can stand for 10 years now,not like the Ps1 did. a new Pc is old by time its 2 years old if you dont keep upgrading its performance

I've always been a big videogame fan; no matter if it's nintendo, microsoft, or sony. I've been following gaming systems since the atari 2600(practically had every major system). I've always been a playstation fan but don't see this goal happening. Good luck Sony. A little too big for your britches.

Sony will probably pull it off somehow,,,they always do.
They are such a massive company they can pretty much 'buy' the consoel war,, whilst Nintendo (and sega in the past) have made sales through releasing great new games..All Sony have ever had to do is pump £££'s into marketing,,sponsoring anything and everything. Sony get celebs to endorse them,,,instal them free in nightclubs etc to make them 'cool' so that everybody has to have one to be 'cool'.
Yes,,in the end they will outsell everything else and once again will claim to win the 'console war' if there is such a thing.
All I know, is that even if there are 6 billion PS3's in the world,,,,and Nintendo only sell 37 wii's,,,doe that make the PS3 better,,,HELL NO !!!!!!!!!!!

Than it's possible since they have whole year ahead and they already sold 2mil so 4 million is possible.

I agree! except that 6 billion ps3 or 10million is kinda impossible for ps3. Wii is almost catching up with xbox 360. By end of year wii will be on the top.

well what is for poor people than.if the ps3 is not for poor people than how do they expect to win this war dont they understand that poor people are the most reckless spenders in the world.a poor person will not pay a bill just say they have ps3.also there are different levels of poor the working poor tend to be a little better with the spending.than the none working poor.

i don't think it has anything to do with rich or poor,,gamers NEED games,,,,,have cocain addicts got any money,,,no! but they still manage to find £500 a week to buy it. If somebody wants a PS3, they will as the other guy said,,,skip paying bills or whatever,,,maybe not buy food for a month! It's easy to get credit or loans these days,,so the rich might pay cash,,,the people who are not so well off might get one on finance but it wont stop sales. My mate paid £400 for his PS1 and was still paying the loan off when he bought his N64!

Be warned zippy commenthh
This is assnine for 3 reasons
1.the PS3 is almsot twice the price of the 360.
2.the 360 was the only option and people rushed to it despite its fckedup hardware.
and fianly I will end with this bit'o'zippyisim
3.the PS3 has to "fight" the PS2,WII and 360 so I see it selling 2-3 million consoles.
End of zippy commenthh
