Malaysian cinemas using night vision goggles to catch pirates Cinemas in Malaysia have had success using military-style night-vision goggles against movie pirates. The targets are individuals that attempt to copy movies using camcorders or mobile phones. Ushers have been trained by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) to catch the pirates, and have managed to nab 17 people in the past two months while hits such as Spiderman 3 and the third Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been released.
"All of the cases were spotted with night-vision goggles," MPA's Malaysia manager, Nor Hayati Yahaya, said on Friday. "Its very successful." Malaysia has stepped up its efforts against piracy while it is engaged in free-trade talks with the United States. The country features on the U.S. watchlist for movie and software piracy.

The use of DVD sniffer dogs in the country has brought about much media attention. The Labradors, Lucky and Flo, have assisted in the seizures of over 1 million discs and lead to a counterfeit DVD ring being smashed. It is believed that Malaysian pirates have put a bounty on the dogs in response to their success.

While this works great for theatrical releases, still a vast majority of the bootlegs are pre release Screener copies. Night vision doesn't do jack against those.

lolz! this really amuses me. they are so desperate to snatch a buck.

arrrrg! this reminds me of dumb and dumber or two stupid dogs or cow and chickin'. here is agent dumber with my hi-tech sun shades huntin' da piratez. be quiet! i'm hunting wabbits! the mpa, riaa and other money sucking biatches should run a retard show on tv to entertain people. just give up and make somethin' useful for humanity and stop acting stupid. save a life, give food to someone who needs it and don't waste time and resources on crap. no matter how much u try, how much money you have and how many brain dead ideas about protection you will never win.

arrrg! ...anywayz i don't like cam or telecyne releases and lastly i will never pay 20 bucks or more on a stupid dvd or 50-60euros on a game or 500 bucks on a buggy vista. that is insane!
