Nokia Software Updater is the tool to update a Nokia phone's firmware. Before updating it is worth noting that updating through the Nokia Software Updater will overwrite files on the phone's memory, thus backing up important files is recommended. The update process can be done in five steps:
1. Download and install the NSU
2. Connect the phone via USB
3. Back up files
4. Update
5. Restore files
For backing up files you will need the Nokia PC Suite or the Nokia OVI Suite. A full list of compatible phones can be found at the Nokia Software Updater page.
